topImagine 150 rambunctious, energetic children sitting in groups on the gym floor anticipating their immediate transport to Egypt!  They were ready to experience a land of strange sounds and language and customs and foods and history at Camp St Joan, 2010, Egypt.  The phrase in the song As-Salamu Alag Laum was learned by the children as the initial greeting of the camp.  Colorful Egyptian artifacts graced the walls.

On Sunday, May 16 in the crowded (and warm!) Upper Room of the SJA Parish Center, our SJA ISAIAH core team hosted a powerful conversation on Immigration Reform attended by almost 50 people. Joining us were Latino/a members of Assumption Parish in Richfield and parishioners of SJA who are deeply concerned about our country’s immigration policies and the importance of enacting humane, comprehensive federal immigration reform. This is the launch of what we hope is a fruitful relationship between these two parishes as we work together on immigration policy that will benefit us all.

O n c e   U p o n   a   T i m e….

Do you remember Walt Disney’s, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”?  I’m thinking of the scene when Snow White declares their tiny cottage to be very dirty and dusty and with just her dazzling smile and beguiling ways she not only sets the dwarfs to work, but all the woodland creatures too.

If you were at St. Joan of Arc on Saturday, May 1, you would have known we have our own, “Snow White” in the form of Norine Larson who worked the same kind of magic.

frontOn Saturday, April 24 Hospitality Hall was transformed into a lovely Tea Room for about 140 women from St. Joan of Arc and their guests. Many of the women wore hats and gloves in honor of the occasion, and lovely spring dresses were seen around the festively decorated room.

Dan Chouinard, our SJA Concert Series Host, co-director and pianist, loves a great singer-songwriter and is one who first introduced Ann Reed to St. Joan's to perform awhile back. "This is a place that's a magnet for good musicians," he said introducing Reed to the stage for her third headlining SJA concert Where the Earth Is Round (the same title of her current CD) Sunday evening 4/11 to a 300 capacity audience.
