Youth sacraments include:
- Baptism is celebrated twice a month. Pre-registration is necessary. All registered parishioners wishing to have their children baptized at St. Joan of Arc are expected to participate in a 90 minute Baptism preparation class for which registration is also required. Contact the SJA Receptionist at 612.823.8205. Older children and adults wishing to be baptized are encouraged to participate in the CIC (Christian Initiation of Children) or RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) programs which culminate with Baptism during the Easter season.
- CIC (Christian Initiation of Children) is an educational process for children (Grade 3 or above) who have not been baptized, or have been baptized and have had little or no Christian education. Through weekly classes and participation in the Sunday Family Liturgy the child is gradually integrated into our faith community. CIC will culminate with the celebration of Baptism, Eucharist and/or Confirmation during the Easter season. - First Eucharist is celebrated by students in Grade 2. Parents and children attend several meetings and workshops together and work through lessons to- gether at home. Letters regarding First Communion information are mailed in February to all Second Grade children registered in our Sunday School program. - First Reconcilation is celebrated by students in 4th grade. Parents & students attend several workshops together, while the majority of the child's preparation is done at home with their parents. Letters regarding First Reconciliation preparation will be mailed in late January. First Reconciliation services are celebrated during Lent. - Confirmation is open to all Youth in Grades 10-11. The preparation program for the sacrament involves a variety of retreats, service projects, small group meetings and Sponsor/Candidate gatherings. Parents and sponsors have an important role in the process which is centered around becoming a full member of the Catholic Church and the St. Joan of Arc community. Information on the upcoming program for the year will be communicated by mail to every registered 10th and 11th grader. Confirmation is offered yearly, beginning in the Fall. Registration happens following an informational meeting. The current information and registration packet will be available closer to the registration date. Registration deadlines are adhered to in order to get materials ready for the start of the program.
