Memorial Garden

view of SJA Memorial Garden The St. Joan of Arc Memorial Garden, founded in 2006, is located on the north side of the church. Designed and created by a visionary committee, the Memorial Garden welcomes the cremains of parishioners who wish to be buried near their spiritual home.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Memorial Garden of Saint Joan of Arc is to embrace the Paschal mystery of death in our Christian community by creating a place for proper internment, memorialization and perpetual care of the remains of our members.
The presence of the Memorial Garden will assist our joyful community in the celebration of life and give comfort to those who mourn as well as provide a place for solace and inspiration as we face the challenges of living the Gospel of Jesus.

History

Concerned about simplicity, economic and environmental issues involved in funerals, the Memorial Garden Committee of St. Joan of Arc proposed establishing a Memorial Garden on the grounds of the parish. The location is on the North Lawn and will have space for over 4,000 burials. With the approval and blessing of the Archbishop, as well as the help of a canon lawyer, a designer of sacred spaces and a cemetery administrator, the committee has established the space, design, rules, regulations and financial policy for the garden. Groundbreaking occurred in the summer, with completion. The first burial was that of Former Pastor Harvey Egan on November 5th, 2006.

Policies

  • Only cremated remains will be buried in the garden.
  • All cremated remains will be placed in biodegradable containers.
  • A Memorial Garden Committee will oversee the management and perpetuity of the garden.
  • Plaques or headstones are not permitted as memorialization of names will occur on the wall of the Church.
  • All interested persons will sign a Purchase Agreement and Reservation of Right of Use.
  • Burials will be priced as economically as possible and funds for the garden will be kept separate from general parish finances.
  • Planning your funeral in advance can be a wonderful gift to your family. Information about cremation and planning your funeral is available at SJA.

How Do I Register?

Any parishioner interested in purchasing a space in the St. Joan of Arc Memorial Garden may do so at any time, but doing so now will help pay for the initial cost of the garden and establish an ongoing perpetual fund account. Reserving a space costs $300.00. You can reserve a space by sending a check for $300 to the Parish Center at 4537 3rd Ave S.; Mpls, Mn; 55419 or by reserving online.

At this time the cost for burial and perpetual care is $100, the cost for having your name engraved on the church wall is $100. Those costs may change over time.
