Those solar photovoltaic panels mounted on the school wing roof, and seen from the SJA parking lot, ARE producing electrical energy as designed! In the past year, several staff members and parishioners have inquired about the SJA solar system. Are we making electricity? Is it working as well as expected? Are we saving much money? What carbon footprint reduction have we realized? Unfortunately, since connecting to the grid on February 1, 2007, SJA has not been carefully monitoring the solar system performance.

The Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict have established an award to recognize a lay woman who exemplifies Benedictine and Gospel values in her daily life. The honor is the Benedicta Riepp Award, officially named after Mother Benedicta Riepp, the foundress of Saint Benedict's Monastery in St. Joseph, Minn. The award has been given since 2007 and this year, one of the recipients is SJA's own Joan Riebel. Joan is an integral part of the life of our parish, serving or having served in many capacities including our youth ministry, Prayer Partners, the stewardship committee, parish council, the Memorial Garden, and Sunday morning projectionist. We congratulate Joan on this honor - it is a wonderful affirmation of Joan's deep commitment to a life of discipleship in the world. Thank you for all the gifts you share at SJA and in your community, Joan Riebel!
Imagine 150 rambunctious, energetic children sitting in groups on the gym floor anticipating their immediate transport to Egypt! They were ready to experience a land of strange sounds and language and customs and foods and history at Camp St Joan, 2010, Egypt. The phrase in the song As-Salamu Alag Laum was learned by the children as the initial greeting of the camp. Colorful Egyptian artifacts graced the walls.
