Delegates from Tierra Nueva Dos
October 27th-November 5th, 2000

On Tuesday, October 3rd while SJA'ers were heading off to work, the 8 delegates from Tierra Nueva Dos took time out to enter Guatemala City to apply for their travel visas. The trip was planned to arrive at the best possible time to secure visas. Jackie Arreaza, Guatemala Sister Parish coordinator, knew of visa agents that would be more "friendly" to possible travelers. She was especially concerned for Rosa Elena Moreno who was not born in Guatemala. Barb Johnson, SJA parishioner, who works in the late Rep. Bruce Vento's office arranged for Vento to send a letter to the Embassy on behalf of SJA and the delegates. Vento sent the letter weeks before he died. As it turns out, everything went well even for Rosa. All delegates received 10 year visas with multiple entries, more than Jackie had expected. Below you see the delegates outside of the Embassy after receiving their passports with visas and eating together at "almuerzo" or lunch.
