The following letter was
received by one of our host families from Fr. Juan Pablo, the pastor of the
parish of Tierra Nueva.
Hello dear Frances,
It gives me great pleasure to hear from you again and to know something of
there since last time. Here I am well along with all the people of the parish,
especially those in Tierra Nueva Dos. I can assure you that until right now we
have not had problems caused by hurricane Stan. However, the situation is
worse near the coast, Escuintla, Quetzaltenango, San Marcos and Atitlan. There
was and there is a disaster. There are villages covered with earth with all
the people, especially in Atitlan. The people went to take refuge in a Church when it
was raining hard, but when there was a mudslide of earth most of them were
unable to survive. As of right now they are talking about more than 1000
buried and they want to declare this part of Guatemala a cemetery because you
cannot look for people when there is so much mud. In other part there are
highways taken by the water, nonexistent bridges, abandoned villages because
one cannot cross the water, and neither are there many helicopters to take food
to where people are. In other places, they put up a rope to transfer people to
the other side of the river because there is no bridge. The truth is that the
situation is very dramatic, but all Guatemala has moved to order help with shelter. In our parish
we have also requested help and people have responded favorably. There is only
to pray a lot, not only for Guatemala but for the whole world because there are
many catastrophes that are shaking humanity and we know that they are not works
of God, because God is neither in the hurricanes nor in the storms nor in the
earthquakes, He is in the ocean breeze (prophet Elijah). What is happening
right now is the consequence of manipulating nature for man. The supposedly
good work of the transformation of nature is not responding negatively, and the
question is “if all countries were developed, what would be the reaction of nature...”
Well, I believe that I wrote enough. This is the news here. Pray a lot for

Me da gran gusto leerte de nuevo y saber algo de allá despues de este tiempo pasado.
Aqui estoy bien con toda la gente de la parroquia especialmente la de Tierra
Nueva 2. Lo puedo asegurar que hasta ahorita no hemos tenido problema causado por
el huracan Stan, la situación sin embargo es peor de lado de la costa, Escuintla,
Quetzaltenango, San Marcos y Atitlan, allí hubo y hay un desastre, se encuentra
aldeas cubiertas por la tierra con toda la gente, especialmente en Atitlan, la gente
se fue a refugiarse en una Iglesia cuando estaba lloviendo fuerte, pero cuando hubo
deslave de la tierra la mayoría no pudo salvarse, hasta ahorita hablan de más
de 1000 sepultados y quieren declarar esta parte de Guatemala cementerio porque
no se puede buscar a la gente hay mucho lodo. En otras parte hay carreteras llevadas
por el agua, puente inexistente, pueblo abandonado porque no puede cruzar el agua,
y tampoco no hay muchos helicopteros para llevar alimentos a donde están, en otros
lugares ponen una cuerda para trasladar la gente del otro lado del rio porque
no hay puente, la verdad la situación es muy dramática, pero toda Guatemala se
ha movido para mandar ayudar en los albergues, en la parroquia también hemos pedido
ayuda y la gente ha favorablement respondido. Solo hay que orar mucho no solamente
por Guatemala sino por el mundo entero porque hay muchos catastrofes que estan sacudiendo
a la humanidad y sabemos que no son obras de Dios, porque Dios no se encuentra ni
en los huracanes ni en las tormentas ni en los terremotos, el está en la brisa
del mar (profeta Elías), lo que pasa ahorita son consecuencia de la manipulación
de la naturaleza por el hombre, la obra supuestamente buena de la transformación
de la naturaleza no está respondiendo negativamente, y la pregunta es "Y si
todos los países se
desarrollaran, que sería la reacción de la naturaleza... Bueno creo que escribí
bastante estas son noticias de aquí, oren mucho por toda la humanidad. Saludos
