Agenda

Rick Nelson brought up the LAGOS Program which offers programs in the Twin Cities and accompaniment in Nicaragua. They have received a Peace and Justice grant from St Joan of Arc for $3000.00. A statement of support was passed around and signed committee members.

We discussed having a member of LAGOS speak at one of our future committee meetings.

Communication

Katharine sent a letter in Spanish to TN2 since the last meeting and read it to the group.

Candles and Card Sale: 18 - 19 November 06

Tim Leone-Getten discussed the candle and card sale. He will provide us with Guatemalan tablecloths. He stressed the need to have as many volunteers as possible for packaging and pricing the products.

The candles will be priced and packaged at the Committee Meeting on 15 November. Ross will send out a reminder to all volunteers.

Sister Parish Activities:

Ross Starkson sent out an e-mail with a list of Sister Parish Activities. He asked committee members to respond with their areas of interest. Thus far, Carol Krush wants to continue to be responsible for the Bible study group. Leslie Knoblauch will continue as a liaison with Ministeries International. She is also interested in the Pen Pal project with Tierra Nueva II and Sister Parish, Inc. Mindy Ahler-Olmstead is interested in the budget and money matters, information and materials, liaison with the Archdiocese, and maintaining the bulletin board.

Ross will check with Jenny about her interest in the Sister Parish brochure. We will see if it needs to be revised. It has been sent out in the past.

Group Picture:

A group picture was taken for inclusion in the St. Joan of Arc Pictorial Directory. Ross Starkson will choose a representative picture from several taken.

The Sister Parish Board of Directors

The Sister Parish Board of Directors will meet in Minneapolis from 3-5 November, 2006.

The Sister Parish Committee from St Joan of Arc will present their delegation experiences to Tierra Nueva II in August of 2006 to the Board at a Pot Luck on 4 November. Jeff Nohner will present a 44 minute video from footage he took while there. The delegates will also present their personal experiences.

Northern Assembly Meeting

Ross Starkson discussed the Northern Assembly Meeting in August, 2006 in Decorah, Iowa.

It was suggested at the Northern Assembly Meeting that each Sister Parish group consider

Ross suggested that we think about the questions. Perhaps, we could use the meeting on the 3rd Weds. of every month for reflection.

Fund Raising

Fundraising was discussed. Sister Parish has been the only St. Joan of Arc ministry allowed to raise funds through donations. The Sister Parish committee has also been the recipient of Mission Sunday fundraising. We discussed if that is fair, considering all the other needs in the church. We also discussed the unique role of sponsoring a delegation from Tierra Nueva II every other year and the costs entailed.

Joel has drafted a letter to Father Jim DeBruycker concerning the history of the relationship and fundraising. We will discuss it further at another meeting.
