St. Joan of Arc Sister Parish Minutes 10-5-05
Efrain, Book Discussion, Guate speaker, Info meeting for new delegates
Discussion on the events around his health issues and request of Miriam and Bernardo. During his last days money is needed to help the family with money they cannot earn while taking care of Efrain and for medicines for pain.
Everyone is supportive of this effort because of our love for Efrain.
Discussed alternative on how to do within the Sister Parish model.
Main action in addition to raising the money for the immediate need is to have an ongoing discussion with our Sister Parish group in TNII.
It was decided that all funds collected in Efrain's name should be sent to TNII and allow the committee in TNII to decide how any extra funds should be used. We will make the suggestion that it could become a fund for future health emergencies, or donated to the local clinic, but they can choose any option they feel is appropriate.
This also reminded us that we need to schedule a meeting with the new pastor at SJA. Maybe Fr. Juan Pablo could send him a welcome letter in December.
Through the Glass Darkly by Thomas Melville A story of the holocast in Guatemala through the eyes of a priest who went there in 1964. Several people signed up for books and Mindy will give the list to Leslie to order. Tim will lead the discussion starting on Wednesday, Oct 26. at 7:00pm
The group will decide that night how frequently to meet.
to interest new delegates will be on October 9, Sunday at 2 in the Parish Center at 12:30. Quite a few of the Sister Parish members are already interested in going. The group of interested people will decide about the time of the trip, Easter or Summer. Mindy reviewed the application and it was approved as is. There was a consensus that the process needs to be a discernment for all involved. There will not be any scholarships this year because of the limited funds. However, the group could do some fundraising.
Discussion of candle sales and transporting candles back with restrictions on carrying parafin. Need to find out what the rules are. How much per person?
Merriam Jocok from the Peten will be at SJA in Hospitality Hall on Saturday October 15 at 7 pm. Kay Yanish is organizing for NISSUA. Discussion of Honorium for the speaker? Decided we did not have the money this year. Joel suggested video taping and using that to help the group.
Kay also suggested help with interpretation. No one available right now. If anyone has an interest contact Rick.
