Leslie, Michael Branigan, Louise, Therese Zink, Mindy, Rick, Jenny and Joel.
The Sister Parish Pot-Luck Celebration with Fr. Jim DeBruycker (JRD) will be held June 17th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. It will be held in the Eagan Room in the gym. Everyone who has ever been involved with Sister Parish is invited to meet and greet our new(ish) pastor, Fr. Jim DeBruycker. People with last names starting with A through M are asked to bring salads or deserts. People whose last name begins with N through Z are asked to bring main dishes. Mindy will talk to Ross to request a letter from Juan Pablo (Our Tierra Nueva Dos pastor in Guatemala) that congratulates JRD and invites him along on one of our delegations to Guatemala. (UPDATE - we got one!) Michael and Mindy will select photos from our past two delegations (or more) to have a continuous loop on a screen in the Eagan Room.
Speakers are invited to answer this request (reply to this e-mail) for the following topics; a previous delegate, a host family, a driver, and a young person to give a five minute talk about how they enjoyed their delegation or what they learned visiting, diving with or hosting our Guatemalan Delegates.
Louise presented the Sister Parish, Inc. (umbrella organization) news.
The Board of Directors (BOD) is looking for new BOD members and would like suggestions or applicants. Contact Louise or Mindy.
Louise requested that we try to organize 20 people to the Sunday, Sept. 17th Walk for Justice. It is three miles and the proceeds raised by these people would go to Sister parish, Inc. If enough SJA members are willing to participate, Louise would approach Sister Parish about a portion of what we raise going toward next linkage fee or some other arrangement
The next BOD meeting here at St. Joan's will be Nov. 2,3,4, & 5, 2006.
There are one or two spots open for the Delegation that is going to Guatemala from here August 4-14th. It was agreed to include Willie Bridges in the delegation, provided he can make the orientation meetings, and to use the scholarship monies available toward his costs. After his bio was read, it was agreed everyone would benefit from his inclusion. Some of us have met him and think he would be a good fit as well as his work in our community is worth encouragement. We have a group rate for ten people so we'd like one or two more people to join us. UPDATE SINCE MEETING: Tica Hanson is also joining the delegation, so we now have 10 delegates!
There has been no contact with Tierra Nueva Dos this past week.
Faith Lutheran church in West Fargo, ND would like an experienced someone from St. Joan's to attend their next meeting, July 5th to share information and answer new delegate's questions. Anyone interested, please reply to this e-mail.
St. Joan's is looking for volunteers to help with the Peace Picnic in the Hawthorn neighborhood in North Minneapolis on June 23rd starting at 5:00. This is the same event that we took the Guatemalan delegation to last summer - and it was a wonderful experience for them. Contact Julie Madden at the Parish Center, 612.823.8205.
