Meeting with Fr. George
- We will have Mission Sunday on June 5th. Jenny volunteered to consider being the speaker.
- Fr. George asked us to write an article for the Arc Angle about the upcoming delegation. It is due April 18th. Louise volunteered to write it.
- We will present the stole to Fr. George on Easter Sunday just before the Alfombra procession at the 11:00 mass.
Book Cart Schedule for March
- March 6th - Michael
- March 13th - Rick
- March 20th - Jenny
- March 27th - Someone who is there for the Alfombra procession.
- Mindy will send out an email to schedule for April and May.
Alfombra
- The selected design is a version of the Sister Parish logo personalized with our 10th anniversary theme. Rick will get supplies and put a note in the bulletin.
- A working meeting will be held on Wednesday the 23rd to cut out the design. Bring box cutters, Xacto knives, etc. to cut out the pattern. The more people who come the more quickly it will go!
- Plan to help with the alfombra on Saturday, March 26 (wear warm clothes). We will start about 10:00, get really rolling by 11:00, and finish sometime late afternoon, early evening (we get faster every year, so it's a guess when we'll finish). Many hands make light work, so please come help (or observe, or take pictures, or bring food for the workers).
Play at Intermedia Arts
There is a play called "La Paz Llamada Guerra" at Intermedia Arts (2822 Lyndale Ave. So.) on Sunday, March 6th at 2:00 p.m. The play deals with the civil war in Guatemala.
Note: There will be a memorial in honor of Archbishop Romero at St. Steven's on Palm Sunday in the afternoon.
Sister Parish Board Meeting
- The meeting will be April 29, 30 and May 1.
- We still need about 8 more people to volunteer to host visiting Sister Parish representatives. We also need more people to help with transportation. Contact Louise if you can help (651.645.6821).
- The northern assembly meeting will be in August in either Seattle or Iowa.
- Rigoberta Menchu's visit has been delayed until April 30 - May 1. She is scheduled to speak at St. Thomas and other places. More details will follow. This would be a great opportunity for a board activity. Most recent information suggested her public address may be Thursday April 28.
CAFTA Action Steps
- Jenny attended an archdiocese CAFTA information meeting that was also attended by Mike Haasl (from the archdiocese), Fr, John Brandis, Fr. Greg Schafer (from San Lucas Toliman) and Kay Janisch. Very good speakers.
- Mindy talked to and provided information to someone who may write an article for the Catholic Spirit.
- Ross will talk to Tom again to clarify whether there is any role for us in highlighting the environmental aspects of CAFTA during Eco-Spirituality week.
- Bob was not in attendance so further discussion of the action steps was postponed.
Delegation Planning
- The delegation is planned from July 8th through July 18th.
- Mindy distributed handouts with cost estimates for different size delegations based on the actual expenditures of the last south-to-north delegation and a planning schedule that showed when we needed to make which decisions as we progress in the planning.
- We decided on a delegation size of 6 plus the Sister Parish representative (Shannon).
Email from Tierra Nueva Dos
Mindy read the email from TNII. They are included with these minutes.
TNII February 6th, minutes.
TNII February 20th, minutes.
Intercultural Workshop
There will be an intercultural workshop on March 10th sponsored by the archdiocese in the Hayden Bldg. (Mindy forwarded information via email.)
Brochure
Jenny distributed a draft SJA Sister Parish brochure. The attendees provided her with feedback.
Report on the Retreat
There were six attendees. We had a relaxed time discussing the spiritual dimension of our involvement in Sister Parish.
Website Update
- A new design has been partially completed and is currently posted on the SJA website. We need content for the items that are still incomplete.
