Rick, Ross, Mindy, Star, Jenny, Susan Sell, Louise, Michael B., and Joel (Í didn't write all the names down and the week got away from me and therefore my memory too) Was Carol there?
Mindy read a message from TN2 which is included after these minutes.
The Sister Parish committee retreat will be held Sat Feb 19 at Saint Joan of Arc.
Joel met with Fr. George Wertin before the meeting to discuss budget that had a balance but all the money was dedicated to projects listed in the budget. Fr. George was asked to have the Mission Sunday be dedicated to our Tierra Nueva Dos and St. Joan Sister Parish relationship. He will consider this. Mindy will schedule a meeting with him to discuss all fund raising ideas.
Brain storming for ideas on how to raise $6,000 (last delegation from the south budget was $11,000) to help pay for a full delegation in 2005.
One idea was to apply to the Justice Fund. Star is going to draft a letter of request for this. Star also has 70,000 miles to donate for at least one ticket if we can find a way to use them for a ticket originating from Guatemala City. Louise will look into this possibility with Sister Parish, Inc.
February 20th was suggested for a day to sell roses to help raise money. This is the date of the concert with Prudence Johnson and Dan Chinaurd titled "I Love Paris"
Other ideas included a silent auction night, pancake breakfast, benefit concert by local musicians (Michael made this suggestion after the meeting).
Another fund raising idea from Susan Sell was to have a "Night at the Movies." This would be held at St. Joan and one movie suggested was Life without Mexicans. Louise will coordinate and check the legalities. If we offer wine and popcorn and ask for donations for the Delegation, we should be in O.K, as we're not selling tickets, me thinks to himself.
Movie night was also suggested for the Board of Directors one night during their stay, April 29, 30, and May 1st.
April 25th is the Feast of St. Mark, the patron saint of our Sister Parish in Guatemala. We may wish to celebrate in some way.
We all said a prayer for Marie Nicollet. She was a translator for the last delegation from TN2 and is ill with cancer.
It was suggested that all of us from last August's delegation send 12 photos to Pam for printing and then Ann will take the photos and paste them on the bulletin board in the gym. A standing agenda item for committee meetings is to determine any updates/changes for the bulletin board.
Everyone discussed the priorities of our "wish list". It was determined that our top priority in maintaining the relationship is delegations. Second priority is the projects in TN2. This reinforces the need for fund raising. Although we have never formally committed to projects other than on a one-year basis, it is practical to recognize that discontinuing the funding of any project could have a great impact on people in TN2 and projects that currently have no other source of funding. See attached worksheet for the 2005 committee plan.

The following message was received from TN2 in January:
Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Sister Parish of SJA,
I send you greetings from all here. We wish you a Happy New Year and hope that all of you are well.
Some of the members of the Committee got together on the first Sunday of January to talk about our sister relationship.
The end of the year is a little difficult for the community because there are many changes in the organization.
We are a little behind on sending information on different things, especially the scholarship committee.
The reason for this is that the new leadership group in the Church (junta directiva) wants to make some decisions on some changes in the management of that project. Their idea is to have the leadership group (junta directiva) from the community participate more directly in the administration of the scholarship fund. They would like to work along with the Committee. We will have a meeting on next Thursday (Jan 13) evening and we will let you know about our plans. We will also send you information on the scholarship fund for this year.
At the next Committee meeting, we hope to reorganize ourselves in order to improve our work for the coming year, as well as, motivate the groups and the leadership to become involved with Sister Parish.
We spoke a little about the visit to SJA. Even though there is still no plan, we would like you to share your preferences on the date, the way to select delegates, the number of participants, etc.

Respectuosamente, Joel Papa
