Our 3rd sale of candles created by the people
of Tierra Nueva Dos saw an increase in the quality of the
candle product. Due to the success of their small business,
TNII was able to purchase better equipment and refine their
skills. Despite the improved quality, we sold slightly less
candles than the previous year's sale. No doubt the novelty
of handmade Guatemalan candles has worn off a bit. On the
other hand, a high quality card depicting Guatemalan
fabric(lower right)increased our total sales over the
previous two years. Sister Parish Inc. also ordered 5000 of
the cards to distribute to their mailing list.
Once again, Mary Beth did a great job organizing the process and many people spent a long evening preparing the candles and cards for sale. TNII continues to use the profits to pay the workers a small amount. The women's group continues to be paid for creating the small adornments that decorate the candle pairs.
