Sister Parish Committee meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 pm. in the Parish Center. Newcomers are always welcome. If you have questions, please contact any of the members of the committee.
What follows are the minutes of the Thursday, September 9, 1999 meeting.
Thursday, September 9, 1999
Present: Louise, Alex, Vicky, Mindy, Carol, Susan, Tim and 1st timers Sarah Osgood, Miguel Rassier, and Martha McDermott from Shared Ministry.
Mindy leaves for Guatemala tomorrow. Issues to be addressed include:
Mindy will be met at airport by Bernardo, Miriam, and Estella. She will be taking 2 printers for the SP Center that were donated by her brothers workplace.
The Sister Parish Board meeting will be held in St. Paul at Macalester Presbyterian on Oct. 1, 2, and 3. Walter and Jackie will stay with Margaret Gustafson. Enough host families have been arranged via Macalester and Vicky Schmidt connection. Susan Sell will help taxi people. A new interim Executive Director will likely by approved at the meeting. Dennis Mudderman has agreed to take the position unpaid and will address funding issues. Vickie Schmidt is taking a leave of absence and Richard Fenske is retired.
The committee discussed recognizing Vickie Schmidts significant and leading contributions to SP Inc., but the motion was tabled as Vickie is not stepping down but merely taking a leave of absence.
Discussion centered on changing the meeting nights to Wednesday so that Jim Maurer might attend. Motion was approved. The 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month were set as meeting nights. Meeting schedule for the near future includes: Sept. 22, Oct. 6(pizza at 6 pm before meeting), Oct. 20, etc. Meetings will continue to start at 7 pm and finish at 8:30 pm. Carol will start Bible Study on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7 pm in October. First meeting is on Oct. 14th. Call Carol if interested. The committee discussed buying a Spanish/English bible for the group.
The SP Inc. North Advisory Board met in Fargo on Aug. 20-22. The advisory board is new and is meant to be a vision steering committee for the organization. Members of each of the northern hermanamientos are represented. Each representative reported on his or her own hermanamiento. There was a lot of energy and a solid base for Sister Parish. The group is evolving. Their next meeting is in January.
In personal notes: Vicky Hempe reports she is fully recovered from her ills caused by her recent Guatemala visit. Bob Heberle is scheduled for surgery on the 20th, and Sienna is keeping Mom and Dad Leone-Getten busy.
