Sister Parish Committee meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 pm. in the school. Newcomers are always welcome. If you have questions, please contact any of the members of the committee.
What follows are the minutes of the Wednesday, September 5, 2001 meetings.
Wednesday, September 5, 2001
Present: Kathleen Hartmann , Karen Dalebroux , Louise Eidsmoe, Katie Keating, Mindy Ahler Olmstead, Bob Heberle, Tim Leone-Getten, Miguel Rossier, Carol Krush
Minutes
Kathleen volunteered to share the duty of taking Minutes of the
Meeting with Karen. Susan Sell and Trina will translate Minutes
of the meetings and forward them on to TNII.
Delegation
We are still in need of someone to be in charge of the adult
delegation. Mindy is willing to assist in the preparation of
orientation. Advertising, promoting, recruiting, etc. is where
help is needed. June 2002 is when the adult delegation is
scheduled to go.
Mindy will come up with an Agenda for the next meeting outlining what needs to be done/gathered for the delegation. This will help individuals know what needs to be done and where individual may be able to help out. Mindy also brought up the idea of a Sister Parish Open House where we could share with Parishioners what Sister Parish is all about.
Candles
Tim reported that Bernardo, President of the Committee, now has
a phone in his home! It would be great if another computer
could be had for him. It was suggested to call Bernardo at the
next Sister Parish Meeting on September 19th. Tim said they
ordered 300 white, 150 blue\ purple, 200 green and 200 red
candles. They will try 150 pillar candles in a variety of
colors. Tim asked that they use a thinner wick for a cleaner
burning candle. It is hoped that Miriam will be able to
transport the candles since she is planning a trip to the
States sometime in November. It is uncertain, however, that she
will be coming soon enough to have the candles for sale by
November 11 or 18. Trina should call Tim to further discuss.
This will be discussed with Bernardo next week during the phone
call.
Spanish Classes
Adult Beginning Spanish classes are scheduled to start on
Saturday, September 29 - November 3rd from 9-11 am. at the
Parish Center. Cost will be $60.00 per person and we can take
up to 18 adults in a class. Louise suggested including
Encuentro Latino as one of the field trips for the class. The
Resource Center has updated its Encuentro program, which
introduces high school and college students to the area's
growing Spanish-speaking poplulation , including talks with
immigrant community leaders. Karen will contact the Resource
Center to further inquire.
Book Study
Louise suggested getting a discussion group going to discuss
issues in Guatamala. Tim will set the agenda and recruit for
this event for sometime in January/February. The book Tim would
like read/discuss is called "Unfinished Conquest " by Victor
Perera.
Spanish Exchange Plan
Bob was wondering if there would be an interest in having
individual(s) and/or couples come to the States for an extended
stay and live with a host family and attend school and learn
English. Bob is going to explore this idea.
Bible Study
Carol Krush would like to start up a bible study group again to
share thoughts with TNII. Carol will put something in the
bulletin to recruit interested parties. 2nd or 4th Thursday of
the month are the target dates.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, September 19th at 7 pm in the
Tulip Room
