Sister Parish Committee meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 pm. in the school. Newcomers are always welcome. If you have questions, please contact any of the members of the committee.

Wednesday, September 19, 2001

Present: Karen Dalebroux , Louise Eidsmoe, Joel Papa, Susan Sell, Lisa Chirpich, Mark Quinn, Bob Heberle, Tim Leone-Getten, Mindy Ahler Olmstead, Rick Nelson, Miguel Rossier

Louise will not be able to attend the next Sister Parish meeting. Mindy has agreed to lead the meeting on October 3rd.

Book Club
Mark your calendars! Tim will lead a discussion on "Unfinished Conquest" by Victor Perera. The tentative dates for the discussion are January 9, 23 and 30. .Copies of the book can be borrowed from the Parish Center library located on the first floor. There are a limited number of copies, therefore, if you have a copy of "Unfinished Conquest" that you borrowed from the library, please return it so it can be used by others

Candles
Candles are due to arrive at MSP on November 9th. They are being brought to the airport by a group from Nebaj in Guatamala who are passing through on their way to Decorah. Louise will check into their arrival time and we may get a group together to greet them at the airport.

Lisa will confirm with St. Joan Staff that it is ok to sell the candles onNovember 18th. Louise will bring greeting cards to the Sister Parish meeting on October 17th. Karen volunteered to take the cards home and bundle them accordingly for the sale.

Adult Delegation
Lisa is proposing the youth go June 14-24 and adults go August 2-12. Lisa will e-mail Jackie to confirm these dates. Susan will contact Common Hope to see about using the same travel agency that God Child Project uses to schedule the flights, etc.

Computer Search
Joel will ask around for a computer to donate to Bernardo now that he has a phone line. Mindy may have a PC that would work and she will look into that. A letter from St. Joan will acknowledge the donation for a tax deduction

Preparing for Adult Delegation (suggested tasks to be done)

  1. Sister Parish Open House/Promotion - sometime in October
  2. Sign up for Spanish class being held in the Parish Center Sept. 29 - Nov 3.
  3. Gather individuals interested in the delegation and have an informational meeting
  4. Application /selection process
  5. Decide on what dollar amount is available for scholarships
  6. Schedule orientation / training / safety

"Día de la Paz"
A Sunday evening Sister Parish Open House was suggested to celebrate "Día de la Paz" (Day of Peace). This will be an opportunity to promote Sister Parish, the delegation, etc. A tentative date for this event is October 28th. Lisa will look into a taco caterer that could possibly cater this event. A good will offering would be requested at this open house to help defer costs. Joel, Karen and Mindy will draft up a Sister Parish Brochure for review at the meeting on October 3rd. Joel will check with Darlene and Nancy to confirm if people can RSVP to the office and if Hospitality Hall would be available on October 28th.
