What follows are the minutes of the Wednesday, August 30, 2000 meeting.
Wednesday, August 30, 2000
Present: Louise, Mindy, Alex, Trina Kuriger, Margaret, Aimee Leach,.
Much of the evening was spent talking about the fall delegation from TNII. The bios of the delegates were sent to you all last week. Jeff will format the bios with pictures Louise took and load it to the webpage in the near future. The dates of the delegation will not be confirmed until later in September. The suggested dates are Oct. 27- Nov. 6. A preliminary agenda includes:
We are hoping to have a newsletter to stuff in the bulletin in a few weeks prior to the visit highlighting delegate bios, the schedule of events, etc. Mindy is willing to help. Who else? We will also need people to stuff. Jeff will also be posting delegate information and schedules on the SJA web.
TNII has requested a list of expectations our SJA committee has for the future of the relationship. There is concern over the money still to spend. It is hoped that this will be discussed during the delegation seeking ways to responsibly use the money.
Bob sent out a letter to 10 parishioners who responded to the Shared Ministry form. Trina is a respondent from that letter.
A memorial for Enrique Morales will be held during the delegation, perhaps at the All Saints Day prayer service. Later information suggests Enrique may have been assaulted and robbed. He had been dead for 3 days. Louise will contact Julie Madden, new P and J staff person, regarding all of the above and setting up her liaison with our committee.
During Louise's visit to TNII she saw the youth computer in Marlene's home near the church being used. The youth would like an updated system with a powerpack backup unit. Susan reported that Jack has a laptop to donate. She also learned that the delegation is lacking $1900 for the trip. We will send the money. Louise also had conversations regarding scholarships and starting a women's cooperative. She will publish a more detailed summary of her trip later.
Mindy reported on an SP Inc. board meeting in October in Seattle. Mindy will use her frequent flyer miles to attend if we donate her airfare to a member of the southern advisory board to attend. The estimated cost would be about $600. We decided to table this request until we heard from Joel on our budget.Post Addendum: The committee agreed to fund the cost of the southern delegates airfare at the 9/6/00 meeting.
Two vests were donated by the TNII committee to our committee. The vests have images of Quetzals on them. We discussed donating them to the Cabaret committee as raffle items.
