What follows are the minutes of the Wednesday, June 6, 2001 meetings.

Wednesday, June 6, 2001

Present: Susan, Tim, Mark, Louise, Joel, Trina, Lisa, Rick

  1. Susan shared some info. from Isaiah and a request of some volunteer help by them. They were impressed by the recent response from St. Joan's(re: Drivers License issue). They are requesting volunteers for a project to do a survey of other parishes. The survey is to follow-up on the recent distribution of a prayer related to immigrant issues (to keep issue in peoples awareness). Questions to be asked are: Did you receive the prayer? Would you be willing to put it in your church bulletin? etc. If you're interested in helping with the survey call Susan @ 612-823-5901.
  2. Political News from Guat.: A suit is being brought against Rios Mott (past President) by some rural communities in Guat. concerning the many civil rights violations during his time as President. Also at the time of this writing, the conviction of the murderers of Bishop Gerardi has come down, three military men and Gerardi's assistant (a priest) were convicted. It's unusual that a trial of this natural has reached this point at all!
  3. Adult Communications from TNII: They received Lisa's letter regarding the proposed Youth (Aug.) and Adult (June) delegation visits for 2002. They say that the timing is fine for them and they discussed all the events (i.e.. Corpus Christi etc.) during those months the delegation could partake in. They're sorry it's so far in the future.
  4. Youth Communications from TNII: They propose correspondence between St. Joan's and TNII Youth. They will send a proposal. They also propose a Bookstore project. They will send a proposal for this as well. They also propose to expand the current scholarship project to the whole TNII community (outside of church community). They suggest going through the school system/director to help coordinate. *St. Joan's Com. agrees that this is a good idea and supports expanding the number of scholarships to 15 and bringing to the whole TNII community* They also propose (they are a very busy group) a project for the community school. To provide more privacy and security, especially for the small children, they would like to build a fence/wall (it sounds like out of concrete) to enclose more of the school yard. They are requesting funds for this project. *St. Joan's Com. would like to support this project and will send $1000. from the Sister Parish Project Money to go to Sister Parish Inc. to be sent to TNII for this project.*
  5. The St. Joan's Sister Parish Com. is looking for a volunteer to coordinate the Adult delegation to TNII for June 2002. If anyone is interested please contact Louise @ 651-645-6821.
  6. Northern Assembly: There will be a gathering of all the North American Sister Parishes in Mankato, Mn. this Aug. 10,11,&12. It sounds like a fun time and not like a boring business meeting, so if you're interested, again please contact Louise.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, June 20th at 7 pm in the Sunflower Room
