Sister Parish Committee meetings are held the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7 pm. in the Parish Center. Newcomers are always welcome. If you have questions, please contact any of the members of the committee.
What follows are the minutes of the Thursday, April 8, 1999 meeting.
Thursday, April 8, 1999
Present: Louise, Jeff, Mindy
A short meeting due to lack of issues and attendance.
The alfombra is over and seemed to be
appreciated by the parishioners. Many people stopped to ask
questions both Saturday and Sunday morning. A huge number of
hours was put in by many people. See the website(

We discussed our meeting schedule for summer months. Jeff noted that meeting attendance has really been down lately. Is it due to no communication from TNII, a lull in the relationship, busy schedules, a general lack of interest? It was decided we need to consider those issues as we set meeting dates. Meeting dates for the summer will be set at the Apr. 22nd meeting.
There were about 15 youth at the informational meeting for the youth delegation in July. Six will be selected during an interview process Monday nite. Tim and Mary Beth will join Marge in selecting the youth. Marge had prepared a good application process for the students to use and required a refundable $500 deposit to interview. Airline tickets will be purchase soon after the selection.
On a perhaps related note, Mindy and Vickie will travel to Guatemala in July on their own. They will try to overlap one of the weekends that the youth are at TNII.
The topic of lack of communication from TNII was again a concern. Our last word from them was on Feb. 25th. They have not responded to our request for input into the use of money raised during this upcoming Mission Sunday. From our cultural perspective, this lack of communication is troublesome to our relationship. The computer is supposedly in Paul's house right now, but we do not know why it isn't being used. Perhaps they need to change their committee structure to designate a person to be the liaison with us like Tim and Mari are for our committee. Paul is very busy with other committee and church responsibilities. We may need to have a phone installed in someone else's home, or is it something else??? We just don't know. Mindy will email Jackie again to see if she can intercede. This communication problem continues to be the biggest frustration for the SJA committee.
