What follows are the minutes of the Thursday, March 25, 1999 meeting.

Thursday, March 25, 1999

Present: Rick, Louise, Jeff, Mindy, Tim, Mary Beth

The youth delegation is moving forward. The informational meeting is this Sunday after the 11 o'clock mass. Mindy, Kathy, and Marilyn Adams(representing a parents perspective) will join Marge in explaining the trip to interested youths. They are looking for 6 youth with Marge and one or two other adults. The youth will have until April 15th to commit and a selection/interview process will occur shortly thereafter. Currently airfares to Guatemala are under $600, but we of course cannot lock in until after the delegates are chosen.

The majority of the evening was spent discussing the alfombra design and creation. As I listened to the preparations, I was once again impressed with the amount of planning and detail that goes into this project. As with anything that challenges, there is a joy in accomplishment also. Kudos to Rick, Mary Beth, Tim, and Mindy for leading this project. Mary Beth came with a design built around the theme of "Cultivating Peace and Justice". They will use more seeds and grain in the design this year partly to guard against the winds of April. The design looked very impressive. Rick will set up a table after gym masses Sunday to seek parishioners who may wish to help for awhile or view the creation. Pattern tracing/cutting will be this weekend. The actual alfombra creation will begin late next Saturday morning. Anyone wishing to help, call Rick at (651) 698-6224. Louise is looking for help providing food for the workers that day. Call her at (651) 645-6821.

Louise sought input for a letter she will write to the new priest of TNII. He is from the Philippines and his name is Padre Antonio(Toy) Cordero. Louise will also ask Father George to write Padre Toy.

Mindy(the new vice-president) reported on the SP Inc. board meeting at SJA on the weekend of March 12-14. Six board members plus Vickie Schmidt and Dick Fenske attended. The new president is Arlene Reed from California. SP Inc also reported a slight improvement in their financial situation, including a $1000 a month grant from the Franciscans. The board also started a committee to research the feasibility of hiring an executive director to raise funds, etc.

Next meeting: Thursday, April 8 7 pm Parish Center
