Sister Parish Committee meetings are held the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7 pm. in the Parish Center. Newcomers are always welcome. If you have questions, please contact any of the members of the committee.
What follows are the minutes of the Thursday, February 25th, 1999 meeting.
Thursday, Feb. 25
Present: Margaret Bonnert (St. Joan's Youth director), Jeff, Tim, Mary Beth, Rick, Louise, Carol
We spent the first part of tonites meeting hammering out dates for the Youth Delegation in July. The tentative dates are on or about July 16-26. Marge would like to have about 6 youth and 2 or 3 adults. She would like to tone down the "human rights" focus a bit and emphasize service and education. Right now she and Jackie are looking at two weekends in TNII with the weekdays spent elsewhere. Marge will have an information meeting on March 28th and will use an interview process to select the youth. She would like to see some scholarship money to ensure that kids who cannot raise the fee can go. The delegation would be a Sister Parish delegation, but would not do committee work. This may be the first of more of these types of delegations, a specific group of delegates from the church going for their specific goals. It was the general feeling last nite that we need to outreach to our parish groups to broaden our relationship. Could we have a family visit or an entire Small Christian Community? How about a "SJA staff trip"? We, as a committee, would be facilitators to maintain a consistency with our mission statement.
Some sad news regarding delegations. Chris Reano has decided to leave the committee, so we need a new person to organize and facilitate delegations. Please call Louise(651/645-6821) if you would be willing to assume that role.
The committee retreat is set for next weekend with 10 adults and 2 very small children. Friday nite will involve a cross-cultural role playing game with discussion to be led by Mindy and Rick the next morning. Louise will open up the "hornetÕs nest" discussion of the role of money in our hermanamiento on Saturday afternoon/evening. We have been asked by Walter/Jackie, Dick Fenske, and Vickie Schmidt to document that discussion and send it to them. But if we have snow that afternoon, skiing may win out!! Jeff will review our goals and job responsibilities we identified last fall to see where we are and where we need to go for our Sunday morning session.
It is still unclear, but it sounds like SP Inc. will hold a Board Meeting on the weekend of Mar. 11th and 12th at SJA. Mindy is organizing this.
Rick is organizing the alfombra creation
this Holy Week. He will organize a "cut the templates party"
and is seeking design help. Anyone with a good idea, call
Rick(651/698-6224).
Jackie sent a wonderful summary of TNII's committee meeting this week. Most of you were copied on this, but if you want to see just a summary of the highlights go here .
Jack Sell has produced a report on business opportunities for TNII. This will be discussed at the next meeting.
Next meeting: Thursday, Mar. 11 7 pm Parish Center
