What follows are the minutes of the Wednesday, February 21, 2001 meetings.
Wednesday, February 21, 2001
Present: Mindy, Jeff, Susan?(new), Susan S, Decklynn, Joe Theisen, Julie, Louise, Steve Peer
As of the meeting, 16 adults had signed up for the Spanish Lessons, at or above the limit for one class. That was before Mindy's talk and before it was featured on the front of the website. We also had a family that expressed interest as a mom/dad/2 preteen unit. We decided that since we were intending this to be an adult class, we would fill the first class with adults and seek a second teacher as a possible family class. Louise contacted Mark who does have an idea for a second teacher. Mark will contact him/her and get back to us. Julie and Louise will continue to accept reservations contingent on finding a second teacher.
Carol will be hosting a pot luck and contra dance on Saturday, March 3rd. Starts at 5:30, Call 612 822-5282 or show up at 4127 Wentworth Ave So. (about a mile from the church, west of Nicollet and 5 blks north).
Trina will not be able to lead a delegation of youth to TNII this summer. We also talked a bit about our model for initiating/recruiting delegations from North to South. There was a somewhat general consensus that in the past we have talked about going to "build relationship" and that some parishioners might need a goal that is more concrete than that to commit. It was compared to locking a group of strangers in a room and saying 'I want you all to build relationships'. It was suggested that perhaps a "Trojan Horse" goal would entice more people who in the process of working toward that goal would indeed build relationships. No decisions were made.
We offered to give up "our bulletin board" in the vestibule to be shared with other groups since we are having difficulty keeping it new. It was suggested to Julie that she propose changing it to an SJA around the World theme to be shared with other international efforts. Julie will take the idea to staff.
We heard Mindy's homily and offered suggestions although it was well thought out and eloquent. We suggested including more specifics and less vagaries and Mindy made those changes. If you were not able to hear Mindy's homily due to the snowstorm, it is available for download on the Mass Highlights section of the SJA website in a day or two.
Alex, via Jeff, proposed that we enter the Name the Room contest as a committee. She suggested names of contemporary p and j leaders(Mandela, Ghandi, King Jr, as well as Romero, Giardi, and Stessel). Jeff said he would submit our idea.
Jeff said that he needs to resign as secretary of the committee after years of taking minutes. He has done it long enough and is too busy. He will continue in the committee. Anyone interested in helping(even sharing the job) should contact Louise at eidsmoel@aol.com or 651.645.6821.
Louise proposed that we send a donation to the relief effort in El Salvador. After minimal discussion, we decided not to do this as a group. It was felt that it had nothing to do with our mission despite being a good cause.
We spent some time discussing the 2 emails from TNII. Rather than summarize them here, they are being sent as attachments with English translation.. Those viewing this via the web, if you would like the translations contact jeff at rhollj@bitstream.net.
