What follows are the minutes of the Thursday, December 3rd meeting.

Thursday, Dec. 3

Present: Bob, Louise, Rick, Susan, Jeff, Mary Beth, Tim, Joel, Chris

Chris reported on delegation interest. Sandra's penpal is one of those who has expressed interest. The sign-up meetings will be held this Sunday, December 6th after both masses in the teacher's lounge. Chris has recruited a few of the past delegates to attend. She also talked about the possibility of a delegation of SJA families someday. Anyone interested in going on the Holy Week delegation to TNII must confirm with Chris by January 21st. There will be an orientation meeting that nite for the delegates.

Hey, all you party people! Bob's Christmas party is the 19th at 5 pm. and it's a potluck. Jean says bring anything. If you need directions, call Bob at 789-9020.

The Committee Guatemalateco(attended the Yolanda function) has invited us to their homemade tomales party this Saturday, the 5th. at 7 pm. It is at 1529 E. Lake St. RSVP to 724-1668. Louise and Carol are going for sure. Call them for details.

Jackie let us know that she did receive the $7000 check from Mission Sunday. Remember that the remainder is in savings with $1000 yet to be determined. We briefly discussed whether the extra $1000 should be sent for Hurricane Mitch relief. Tim and Mary Beth expressed concerns that this may put the TNII committee in a tough spot with their community. This led a to a discussion of "are we becoming more money focused?" and "what is the right thing to do". It was decided that this was a big enough topic that we should save it for the winter retreat. P.S. The winter retreat is still on to Tim and Mary Beth's cabin. Look for an exact date to come out of the next meeting.

Mary Beth reported on the candle sales. We sold 779 pairs of candles and "some" cards for a gross of $4384. Estimated profits were about $3500. Mary Beth will instruct Jim M. to send this money to TNII. She also will ask them if they are interested in upping the total of candles to 1000 pairs for next year. Some SJA'ers were disappointed when we sold out on the 1st Sunday.

Carol reported that the Bible Study has been moved to the 2nd Sunday of the month and there are now 7 regulars. She has started trying to email TNII. No response yet.

Bob reported that Tim's dad will make a frame for the Solidarity Banner he brought back from TNII several years ago. It will hang in Hospitality Hall.

Joel reported that he has 3 computers to be donated as the owners upgrade. These will eventually be sent to Walter and Jackie to be used in the Sister Parish Center for training purposes. Walter will load the Spanish software down there. We also discussed using some of our money to purchase printer(s) if Walter and Jackie expressed a need for them.

Bob sent around a letter for all to sign that he will send to Janet Reno requesting Temporary Protection Status for Central Americans living in the US about to be deported. This status is requested because of Hurricane Mitch. If you would like to help with this call Bob(789-9020) or visit our political webpage at( http://www.pconline.com/~sja/pol.html ).

Speaking of the web page, Jeff reports that it is up and running and being updated regularly. Check it often for the latest news at http://www.pconline.com/~sja/sister.htm .
