Present: Tim and Siena, Rick, Mindy, Joel, Bob, Louise, Mike, Margaret and Eric
Candle and card sale, Nov 18:
Bob is going to Guatemala on Nov 9 returning on Nov 15 with
the candles. We signed cards with Christmas greetings for him
to give to our sisters and brothers in TNII. The cards are
ready. However, the cards assembled last year need some first
aid in the bows on ribbons. Karen put some new ones together
with rafia that look really good. Cards will all be in the
Parish Center store room. Suggestion, sell for $5 for one, 3
for $10. (Need discussion and concensus on this at 11-15
meeting/work session for putting candles together with notes
and ribbons). Joel, Tim and Mike can come on the 15th. Louise
will call a few others. We need at least 6 people. Sign up for
selling on the 18th is complete.
Delegation:
Next step schedule meeting with potential delegates. Date
January 13, 2002, Sunday afternoon at 12:30. Need to get the
room reserved for about 20.(Louise). Need a fact sheet on
delegation, Timetable for preparation, costs, orientation.
Mindy and Joel will work on as well as a Sister Parish
brochure.
Communication with TNII:
We made a list of topics for Bob to discuss with the group
while in TNII. List includes the women's project, status of new
money? Clarify new delegation dates, June 14-24 for youth and
July 19-29 for Adult. Status of other projects as far as need
for $ in the coming year. We still have a balance in our
project funds of several thousand.
Lagos:
Rick went to hear a presentation at the Resource Center of the
Americas by Kay Yanisch about human rights accompaniment in
Guatemala. Kay is trying to start a local group to sponsor
people to live in Guatemala with communities that are
vulnerable. The group was supportive of exploring the idea of
SJA or the SJA Sister Parish being one of the sponsors. Rick
will invite Kay to come to a meeting in the future.
Jackie and Walter:
We discussed our sadness at seeing them leave Guatemala and
Sister Parish. We voted to send a greeting and gift with Bob to
give them on behalf of our Sister Parish as a Thank you
especially for the work in setting up computers and email
communication, being a go between when communication was slow
and for helping all of us personnally on our journey of
understanding and faith in Guatemala and Sister Parish.
Transition:
Mindy will be taking over as Chair of the group after the
first of 2002. She has given her notice of termination to the
Sister Parish Inc Board for her position there. Louise is not
leaving the group but will work on other projects.
