Sister Parish Committee meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 pm. in the school. Newcomers are always welcome. If you have questions, please contact any of the members of the committee.

What follows are the minutes of the Wednesday, January 3rd, 2001 meetings.

Wednesday, January 3, 2001

Present: Mindy, Alex, Rick, Mark, Joel, Carol F., Julie, Louise, Carol K.

We received a letter from Bernardo with New Years greetings. He wrote:

Dear friends, receive an affectionate greeting and our desires that the present year is filled with success and joy in your lives. We only wish to comment that we are beginning this year with much enthusiasm to continue with our hermanamiento relationship. Regrettably, for some days we have been unable to communicate because we did not have any functioning email. For the moment, the email is working. We will have our first committee meeting next Sunday, Jan. 6, 2001. According to information that Jackie gave us, the funds for this years projects are in the bank account of Sister Parish Guatemala. During the first days of January, we will fix this by transferring the funds to the committees account. Please write to this email address (zancudo@intelnet.net.gt), because the equipment at Paul's house again is not working. We hope that this finds you all well. We love you. Bernardo

Carol F. just returned from Guatemala and Honduras, including a stop in TNII. Miriam sent some cards with her for the committee and various individuals. Carol also attended the regional SP Inc. meeting there and stayed at the Sister Parish Center in Guatemala City. She attended mass in TNII the next day and passed out 600 heart suckers and greetings from SJA. In addition, Carol went to the Christmas party for 200 children in the community. She also visited the homes of Paul and Aura as well as Miriam and Bernardo. Carol then took some people to Pizza Hut in the city including Fr. Arturo.

Back at SJA, Spanish/Culture classes will begin on March 3rd on Saturdays for 6 weeks. Instructor(s) to be determined. A Spanish Cultural social event will follow each class(ie Mercado, cooking, salsa dancing, etc.). Costs to be determined(est. $60??). The youth will accompany the trip to the Mercado.

Fr. George would like SP to do a homily without fundraising involved. Perhaps a takeoff of Mindy's article in the ArcAngle. A tentative date has been set for Sunday, Feb. 25th. Mindy will do it, but prefers someone new. We have still not received the evaluations from TNII regarding the last delegation, but those could be included in the homily also.

Remember the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration this Sunday the 21st. The bus leaves at 1:45 pm for John the Baptist Church in New Brighton. CT Vivian, who worked with MLK, is the speaker. This is and Isaiah sponsored event. Call Julie at 612.823.8205 ext. 228 to reserve a seat on the bus.

Joel reported around $10,000 remains in our budget. $4000 of that is earmarked for a new project, yet to be determined. About $4300 from this November's candle sales is also saved and earmarked for the next delegation.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, Jan. 17 7 pm. Classroom 101
