Thanks to mother nature sending us the worst driving weather of the season and possibly the start of soup supper, the meeting had only three people in attendance: Rick Nelson, Eric Gustafson, Mindy Ahler Olmstead. Thanks to Rick and Eric for braving the ice and snow so I wouldn't be by my self ;-)
Rick has agreed to be the contact person with the LAGOS group - this is the Guatemala Accompaniment group that Kay Yanish and Kris came to talk about at our Jan 17th meeting. Rick will keep us updated on their activities and coordinate the effort to apply for the Justice Fund to assist LAGOS.
The youth delegation has begun their orientation meetings. The adult delegation is full with 10 women. This group will meet Sunday March 3rd to set the orientation dates. Mindy will recruit help for the adult orientation sessions at the next meeting.
This was the main topic of conversation. The alfombra will be worked on March 30. That is coming fast! We talked about ideas for the design including topics that came up during out book discussion of Unfinished Conquest. One idea is to incorporate the quetzal bird - the national bird of Guatemala - and its parallel to Mayan culture and the survival of this culture and heritage. Other ideas are Maximon or the idea of the unfinished conquest. Louise is going to discuss design ideas with the committee in TNII while she is there.
Mindy received a brief note from Paul that Louise had been there and met with the committee. They were grateful for her visit. He also reported that she was then on her way to Livingston.
That's it! Mindy
