We approved a donation of $100 to the Resource Center of the Americas. This is a donation we have made annually.
Louise leaves tomorrow morning for Guatemala. She will visit TNII while she is there. She is taking the valentine cards that were made at the successful Sister Parish social gathering last Saturday. She is also taking a computer for TNII. She will also discuss with them if they would like a donation of a sewing machine and more computers. Other topics for discussion include: delegations, fundraising ideas. We look forward to her update when she returns and pray for her safe journey.
Joel brought a Christmas stocking made of scraps of Guatemalan material that he had bought at a silent auction. It is one from the Ruth and Nojemi cooperative. He wondered if this might be another fund raising idea to have someone in TNII make something like this. We agreed to continue this discussion of other fund raising ideas in the future and Louise will talk to members of TNII about this idea when she is down there.
Louise received an email from Lee Zook from Decorah, Iowa who has just returned from a trip to Guatemala with a group of students from Luther College. The group make a visit to TNII for mass on Sunday and it was a highlight of the trip for the students. There is a spiritual grace that they felt in that church that is very powerful. Lee also said that the church floor is finished and that Fr. Arturo was there when they visited.
Youth - there are 5 girls and 2 boys signed up for the youth delegation in June. Louise is taking pictures and biographies of these individuals to TNII as a bit of an introduction. Adult - we have 9 women signed up so far although delegates have until Feb 15 to submit their applications. Dorothy was at the meeting to ask some questions and is considering going on the delegation. Scholarship money is still available and only one delegate has requested any of it so far.
The theme for Camp St. Joan will be Latin America including Guatemala. Christine Patlan stopped in to ask for some ideas from the committee. The camp will be held July 22 - 25 from 9am-noon for children ages 4 to 12. Hopefully the youth delegates will be interested in sharing some of their experiences as they will have recently returned from their trip. If others would be willing to share pictures, stories, or games at Camp St. Joan, please contact Christine by calling the Parish Center or via email at cpatlan@stjoan.com
The time for the alfombra is rapidly approaching. Mark your calendars for March 30th to help with the creation of the alfombra in front of the gym entrance - outside. We are in need of a design for this year's alfombra. If you have ideas, please contact Rick Nelson. We may try to schedule a brainstorming session where we will view the video of alfombras being made in Guatemala then talk about ideas for designs. Stay tuned!
Next meeting Wed, February 20th in the Parish Center
Respectfully submitted, Mindy
