 St. Joan of Arc is a community with a long tradition of giving. It is a generous community that has shared not only its financial resources, but also the time and talents of its diverse parishioners. Invariably, those who give of their time report having gained more than they gave.
 Take some time to look over the list of volunteer opportunities listed below. Consider ways that you can become even more involved in the community of St. Joan of Arc.

Assist with Liturgy
Eucharistic Minister: Offers the Eucharistic Cup & Bread during the Gym Mass Communion. Greet parishioners, distribute bulletins and serve refreshments. Rotating schedule.

Sunday Projectionist: Project computer images onto gym screens at SJA liturgies. Knowledge of PowerPoint helpful. Training provided. Ongoing, rotating schedule. One Sunday per month or substitute.

          Holy Week Projectionist: Experienced projectionists only
          Easter Projectionist: Experienced projectionists only

Audio Visual Helper: Sunday mass setup. Knowledge of camera and web development skills helpful.
Adult Choir: A volunteer choir for special Sunday liturgies, Christmas & Easter. Involves weekly Thursday evening rehearsals (Sept – Apr). Teenagers who can make a weekly commitment are welcome
Launder Linens: Pick up and launder church linens. Once per/month
Liturgical Reader: Reader at 9:00 or 11:00 masses. Reader’s workshop is provided.
Prayer Partner: Prepare and lead occasional Prayer Services. Assist people in ritualizing life events. Attend quarterly meetings. Visit Prayer Partners's site.
Seasonal Liturgical Decorations: Join & assist with Sunday liturgy, seasonal liturgy and special event decorations.

Sacraments
Baptism Garments: Sew infant baptismal gowns throughout the year.
Instructor for Unbaptized Children: Teach children third grade and older basic Christian beliefs. Meets approx. 6 – 8 times during Lent.
RCIA Sponsor: Walk with an RCIA canidate through the initiation process. Tuesday evening sessions and occasional Sunday rites (Sept. – May).
Baptism Educators: Teach parents baptism class in preparation for the baptism of their child. 1 time a month.

Charity and Justice
  
Calvary Church 3rd Sunday Dinner: Shop, prepare, serve and clean-up a Sunday afternoon meal on the 3rd Sunday of a designated month with other families at Calvary Church at 2608 Blaisdell Ave S.(Oct. – Apr.) More Details
         Coordinate Volunteers & Meal Planning: Work with families & volunteers to plan & serve the meal.
        Serving Family: Assist in serving & clean up the meal.
El-Bethel Baptist Church Youth Program: Groups of up to 4 people (families welcome) needed to prepare and serve dinner to approx. 40 neighborhood children attending Bible study Tuesday evenings. May choose one-time or ongoing commitment.
Grace House(AIDS hospice): Prepare evening meals and/or drive residents to medical appointments and/or offer personal caregiving as needed.
SJA Housing Ministry: Teams work hands-on locally to create affordable housing and mentor renter families. Flexible time/participation commitment.
Isaiah/Interfaith Action Organization: A congregation-based ecumenical organization focused on social & economic justice in the metro area. Core team meets monthly.
Meals on Wheels: Deliver meals to homebound.  
St. Stephens Shelter:  Assist overnight at emergency shelter for men.
Sister Parish/Tierra Nueava II Committee: Meets bimonthly to maintain ongoing relationship and projects with Tierra Nueva Dos, our Sister Parish in Guatemala. See website.
Sowers of Justice: This Catholic legislative network provides information and Action Alerts on social justice issues during the legislative session
St. Joan of Arc WAMM/Peacemakers: Study Christian non-violence, participate in actions and events that promote peacemaking and address militarism in our society. Meets monthly.
Warm Hands, Warm Hearts: Collect and distribute warm jackets and gloves for needy children through Person to Person.
SJA Peace E-Network: Receive periodic e-mails from SJA regarding upcoming peace actions and events.

Adult Formation
Small Christian Community Board: Supports existing SCCs in our community, organizes new groups and plans SCC gatherings and retreats.Meets 5-6 times a year. Visit the SCC website.
Life Long Learning Board: Oversees adult learning activities in areas of spiritual growth, social awareness and a deeper understanding of our faith. Meets 4 – 5 times per year.
Eco-Spirituality Committee: Plans programming to connect spirituality and a sense of justice with the earth, its systems and all its creatures. Meets 8-10 times per year.
Parish Retreat Team: Plans SJA retreats. Meets as needed to coordinate the scheduling and direction of retreats.

Pastoral Care
Befriender: A ministry of compassionate listening to parishioners in need. Training provided. Befrienders Homepage
Eucharistic Minister: Take Communion to the homebound
Friendly Visitor: Visit parishioners in local nursing homes.
Funeral Receptions: Assist with setup, cleanup, and hospitality after funeral services.  Days Evenings
Feed My Sheep: Bring communion on a regular basis to patients at HCMC. Participation demands interview with SJA & HCMC staff. A vital outreach to people removed from their own communities by sickness.

Community Building
SJA Concert Series Chair Take-down: Assist SJA Maintenance staff
SJA Concert Series Ticket Sellers: Sell tickets during Sunday Masses.
SJA Concert Series Hospitality: Assist with setting up and serving snacks and beverages during intermission. (Sign up in May only.)
55+ Holiday Luncheons: Plan & host celebrations for people 55 and over, three holidays per year.
New Parishioner Dinner: Set-up/clean-up, serve dinner, and provide hospitality.
Parish Picnic: Assist with barbecuing, coordination of the kitchen, and set-up/clean-up of this May event.
Seder Meal/Last Supper Mass: Holy Thursday community meal. Set up, serve, and clean up.
Wednesday Lenten Soup Suppers: Soup and Bread Maker, clean up crew
GLBT Group: Meets regularily for meals, faith sharing, socializing, service projects and retreats.
Parishioner Hospitality: Place phone calls welcoming new parishioners, answering questions and listen to concerns.
Cabaret Volunteers: Various opportunities to be defined.
SJA Womens Group: Work with a group of leaders to plan & host quarterly social, spiritual & educational events for the women of SJA.
New Parishioners Welcome: Place phone calls welcoming newly registered parishioners to SJA.

Family Community Building
Adoption Committee: Meets every 6 mos. to organize events that support and educate adoptive families.
Camp St. Joan Co-Leader: Lead children through learning centers during a weeklong half-day program for children 4 yrs.– 6th grade. Camp is held during the 3rd week of July. Materials, training & support provided.
  Family Camp Planning Committee: Assist in planning and hosting a weekend family camp off-campus in October. Meets 6 – 8 times, or as needed.
Family Camp Aide: Assist leaders with tasks during Family Camp. Meets 6 – 8 times, or as needed.
Family Service Project: Organize recreational activities and visit residents of Birchwood Care Center 10 – 11:30 am third Saturdays, every other month. Primarily for families with small children.
Parent Advisory Committee: Help plan and organize social, service & educational events for grade school children & families. Also advisory regarding grade school faith formation. Meets 8 times during school yr.
GLBT Families Committee: Meets every 6 mos. to organize social, service & educational events for GLBT families with children.

Nursery Birth-3 1/2 years
Lead Volunteer: Coordinate volunteers in Nursery 6 – 7 times per yr. (8:15 – 12:30 pm), welcome families and supervise sign-in and sign-out of children. 1st Aid/CPR provider.
  Nursery Volunteer: Provide childcare for children birth through 3 1/2 yrs. One Sunday morning per month
   Session 1(Sept.-Feb) 9 am Mass   or 11 am Mass
    Session 2(Mar-Aug) 9 am Mass   or 11 am Mass
Nursery Substitute Volunteer: Provide childcare on an "as needed" basis. Notified of need 1-3 days in advance.
        9 am Mass     11 am Mass
Special Events Volunteer: Provide childcare on Christmas Eve, Lenten Wednesday evening prayer services & Easter.
Nursery Advisory Committee: Meets 4 times during the school year to define and evaluate Nursery policy and procedures.

Note: Virtus Training- All volunteers who have contact with children are required to attend “Protecting Gods Children” child abuse awareness sessions. FFI or to register for a session contact Steve at the Parish Center.

Pre-School Religious Ed 3 1/2 yrs.-K
Pre-School Teacher: Conduct weekly lessons for pre-school children (4yrs. – K) on Sundays (Sept. – May). No previous experience except ability to have fun with children is needed. Training, lesson plans and support are provided throughout the year.

Pre-School Music Program: Lead preschool children in a large group musical experience. Leaders enjoy singing preschool songs, no training needed.

Elementary Religious Ed Teacher: Teach lessons for elementary age children Sunday mornings, weekly or every other week. Training, lesson plans and support are provided.

Youth Ministries Grades 7-12

Small Group Co-Facilitator: Adults lead a 45-60 minute small group (10 – 12 youth) following Club on 2nd and 3rd Sundays 10:30 am -12:15 pm. Training and lesson plans are provided. Mid- Sept. – Mid-May.
Youth Music Mentor:An adult with musical background to mentor our youth Club musicians. Music is performed at Club.
Service Sunday SJA Contact Person: Call a list of 8 – 10 youth and serve alongside them. Once a month, 1st or 3rd Sunday, Oct. – May.
Service Sunday Assistant: Help with driving or calling as needed.
Web Page Mentor: Young adult or adult to meet monthly with enthusiastic group of youth who are creating and updating the youth web page for SJA.
Adult Leadership: Provide leadership at various youth events throughout the school year.
Summer Event Adult Leadership: Either Jr. High Summerfest or Sr. High Summerfest. One week offsite.
Night on the Street in April: Friday night-Saturday morning sleep outside at Plymouth Church
Confirmation Small Group Co-Leader: Meet with small confirmation group 4-5 times through process groups determined by geographic location of home.
Confirmation Sponsor: Format to be determined.
Communications: Write articles and about youth ministry for website. Meets on as-needed basis.. Photographers also needed.
Lead Volunteer: Provide Assistance to youth ministers and small group leaders on Club Sundays (2nd & 3rd ) 6-8 times per year.

Receptionist: Answer door and route phone calls to staff or voice mail. Light clerical duties. Fill in for staff on sick days, vacation & special events.
      Mornings(8:30-12:30 pm)

      Saturdays(8:30-1 pm)
      Sundays(8:30-1 pm)
Print and Fold Bulletins: Daytime on Thursdays, as needed.
Insert and Staple Envelopes into Bulletins: Daytime on Fridays as needed(2-3 times per year).
Library Helper: Check in returned books, tidy shelves.

Communications
   SJA Website: A community project. We welcome you wherever you are on your cyber-journey. Do as little or as much as you can. Web designers need not be experts but must keep their section up to date. Writer/Reporters can report on as few or as many events/features as they would like to. Photographers must have access to a digital camera or scanner.

      Writer/Reporter- Write articles on special events or feature stories at SJA, send them via email to webmaster
