Small Christian Communities at SJA are groups consisting of 6-15 individuals who meet on a regular basis to connect their lives more closely with the Christian stories. They pray together, socialize together, and are actively involved in social justice issues. The staff liaison is Tom Smith-Myott, tomfsm@stjoan.com.
It is somewhat hard to describe a "typical" Small Christian Community. Some meet once a month, some twice a month, a few meet every week for a certain function(Friday nite dinner, Saturday breakfast, etc.). At any given time of the year, some SCCs are falling apart and new ones are forming. Many, however, have a long history. Some SCC's have a specific focus(parenting, social justice, etc.). Many are just a group of SJA'ers getting together on a regular basis. Some are more socially oriented, others are topic oriented. Many are action oriented while others emphasize discussion and reflection. Some include prayer and bible study while others do not. A "Small Christian Community" at St. Joans is what you collectively wish to make it.
