Spiritual Ministries

St. Joan of Arc welcomes you wherever you are on your journey.  Each journey is unique with its own mountains, valleys, plateaus, rivers, forests, and deserts.  All who journey move in their own rhythm. Sometimes a person may be blocked and benefit from a companion, a traveler familiar with the terrain, or perhaps one may simply need a witness for the path to become clearer.  The spiritual journey is a path of freedom, a path of love that brings us way beyond the limits of ourselves and our attachments.  Waking up to who and where we are on the journey can be a challenge.

The following is a listing of people, primarily from St. Joan of Arc, who accompany those on their spiritual journey from a variety of perspectives.   It includes those doing spiritual direction, coaching, energy and healing work, and other forms of spiritual ministry, as well as some centers where spiritual ministries are offered.  All those who offered their services in these areas have been included and have given a brief description of their ministry.

St. Joan of Arc is not in a position to endorse nor validate the credentials and experience of the following listing.   As in any journey where there are vulnerabilities it is wise for the traveler to discern who is most appropriate to accompany them on their path.

Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction has a long tradition in Christian faiths.  It is a process of discernment, of listening and awakening to the movement of the Spirit/Sacred in one’s life and the living out of that awareness.  One enters into this process with a desire to deepen one’s relationship with the Spirit.  For those feeling cut off from the Spirit, a desire to

reconnect with the Spirit is expressed.  A willingness to create space in one’s life to listen through different forms of prayer such as:  meditation, reflection, mindfulness, art, writing, as well as other creative forms of prayer enhances the soil of the soul for the Spirit to grow.  The tradition has consistently defined the practice of Spiritual Direction as the art that recognizes the Spirit as the true director.  The director stands in service to the relationship between Spirit/Sacred and the one seeking direction and is there to companion the directee on his/her journey.

Every aspect of daily life is material for Spiritual Direction as one seeks to become more aware of God’s abiding presence in all of life.  Spiritual Direction can be done in a group or as a one to one relationship with a spiritual director.  There are similarities to a therapy relationship in terms of confidentiality, standards of ethical practice and an expectation of ongoing education and supervision for the director.

Coaching

In the coaching model, the coach assumes the client knows their life.  The coach listens for what will deepen the client’s understanding of their life in order to move the client into action, aligned with their real values, dreams, and undeniable life purpose.  This creates for the client a life of focus and deepened meaning.  Co-active coaching witnesses personal change in the client.

Who would not want to have such fire and passion be theirs!!!  We often say in the co-active coaching profession that “shift happens”.  Clients have many events, life interests and relationships that frequently pull them toward the heart of who they really are.  Coaching is the place where we give greater definition to who we are and create our lives in a more intentional way.  A life coach holds us as naturally, creative, resourceful, whole and accountable!

Type of Ministry:       Personal and Professional Coach

Description of Ministry and Focus:  I have been involved with the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) since 1996.  It was through this school that I fine-tuned my interactive coaching skills for my organization development business.  My background in organization development has been enhanced through the training I received at CTI.  Currently, I have a co-active coaching practice here in the Twin Cities and hold a faculty position for the Coaches Training Institute, which takes me to cities throughout the United States and Canada and more recently to Norway, England and Tel Aviv.   Co-active coaching, CTI’s brand of coaching, is a tremendous tool for living life to the fullest.  When we get in touch with untapped dreams in our lives, a co-active coach has the skills to design with you how you can make real the person you are becoming.  You can plan on making an investment into yourself with an initial two-three hour discovery session followed with at least three months of weekly phone coaching calls.

Energy Work

What is Energy Work?  If you hurt your finger, what’s the first thing you do?  You hold it.  If you have a stomachache the first thing you do is put your hands on it.  Why?  Because your hands naturally direct healing energy.  In many cultures around the world energy work is a natural part of their health care.

Energy work describes a range of subtle energy therapies used to restore balance to the energy system.  Practitioners often use multiple techniques such a Reiki, Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch or Polarity Therapy.  It is used to accelerate wound healing, reduce pain, strengthen the immune system, reduce anxiety, promote relaxation, assist the grieving process etc.  A session is usually done on a massage table with the person fully clothed.  The practitioner may gently touch the body or use sweeping movements in the energy field around the body. People usually report a feeling of relaxation and well-being.

Type of Ministry:       Energy Healing

Description of Ministry and Focus:  Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the concept of bodymind, and the moving Qi, or energy, that affects both aspects.  Where Qi stops moving, pain results.  Long term Qi stagnation may lead to illness.  In my uptown office, clients (who remain fully clothed during treatment) experience relaxation followed by other health benefits.  I especially enjoy teaching groups (at the Open U and elsewhere) who find that even beginners in shiatsu can help others to a greater experience of well-being.

Experience/Credentials/Training:  Since 1992 I have been studying shiatsu, a hands—on technique based on ancient Chinese modalities, and am certified, through the national Certification commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, as a therapist of Asian bodywork.

Other Information of Importance:  Lisa is the author of “Growing Your Spirit”, a guide to listening and living from your inner spiritual voice.  The guidebook helps you to follow the voice of your Spirit for it holds the truth of your life.  Most likely you have been suppressing your spirit in ways that you are not even aware of, following a path away from God where you live in anxiety and pain, fear that your needs won’t get met, and you experience lack.  Your spirit wants you to follow a path towards God where you live in ease and joy, where your needs are always met, and you receive great abundance.  More information on her website.

Type of Ministry:  Body/Spirit

Description of Ministry and Focus:  Coaching and guiding people into the world of skating as a means of spiritual-life enrichment.  The movement of inline skating allows for a therapeutic swinging motion offering a similar sensation as being cradled in a loving mother’s or father’s arms.  This sensation in tandem with enriching environmental exchanges allows for spiritual connections with oneself and mother earth.  These body spirit earth connections facilitate the body-mind spirit healing experience.  Inline skating once moved through ones fears with a coach is a form of meditation.

Experience/Credentials/Training:  Noelle, an athlete, has skated for 28 years and has found inline skating the most fulfilling in the areas of artistry, athleticism and spirituality.  Skating brings spiritual respite and healing.  She became a Master Inline Skating Coach and developed Robichon’s Inline Skating, a skate school founded on the principle of spiritual health and growth and brings this message of healing and hope to others.  The inline skate school is honored as the first skate school endorsed by Rollerblade Inc. outside of its programs.  Noelle is active in Interplay Dance and Yoga.  Inline skating assists people in developing inner peace.
