Green Carpet Club
...some real beauties!

Seven years ago parishioners would have needed to clear glass and rubbish from around the church grounds. Today they can pick flowers to place on the altar. This transformation can be credited to St. Joan's Green Carpet Club, a group of avid gardeners dedicated to having the grounds clean and appealing to the eye. The group has grown slowly and is always looking for new "weed pickers" to join.
Bev Kauth

A plea was placed in the Church bulletin looking for gardeners. Arriving are the scene were: Bev Kauth, Patty Sabow, Jean Heberle, Kevin Zimmer, Ev Golden, Phil Schmidt and Clarence Von Eschen. They each had areas of expertise and started their journey.

Bev has been challenged this year with construction in process. She, together with Patty, had previously kept the flowers and shrubs growing at the gym entrance. With the construction they needed to be transplanted. Thanks to the work of the Randy Miranda Family all those plants found a new home on the parish grounds.

Clarence Von Eschen
If you arrive at Mass some Sunday and think someone is praying in the flowerbed, it is probably Clarence slipping in some extra weeding time. Clarence and Phil have been the care keepers for the East side which adorns a long fleet of petunias the full length of the church and school.

John Grove

Thursdays have been another "Sunday" for the club as they have met frequently to plant, weed, and mow. Phil and Clarence "pushed" the mower by hand for the first few years, but they have now graduated to a riding mower, and you can find Phil or John Grove there on Thursdays doing that duty. John joined the group two years ago and has been a faithful mower. This has given Clarence more time for weeding.

Phil Schmidt

A new member to the group this year is Dick Seekamp who has planted and managed the lovely arrangement at the South entrance of the gym. The many colors in his garden have been an added attraction.
