Letter to Archbishop Flynn
...one Small Christian Community's Plea |
Editor's Note: The St. Joan SCC called SAGES sent the following letter to Archbishop Flynn. They encourage/challenge other SCC's to mail him with their thoughts on the scandal in the Catholic Church.
 Dear Bishop Flynn: We are members of a small Christian Community from St. Joan of Arc, and wish to relay our thoughts to you, the chairman of the Bishops’ Sexual Abuse Committee. We are hopeful that these issues have been discussed at your May meeting, and will be considered at the Bishops’ Conference this month in Texas. We are grateful you have taken the leadership in confronting this crisis, and prayerfully support your efforts. We believe the following items should be included: - Zero tolerance for child abuse and immediate reporting to civil authorities.
- Address the subject of alcoholism and drug abuse by priests and its possible link to sexual misconduct.
- Solicit the laity for their comments prior to the conference.
- Allow priests the option of marriage
- Ordain females to the priesthood.
