State of the World |
|
The State of the World forum held recently at St.
Joan's was a forum set up by Margaret Lulic to frame a discussion in
preparation for another world forum this fall that, while not formally a
part of the United Nations, will consists of many
members of the UN. It will consist of meetings of
about 2,500 global leaders, political leaders, corporation leaders, heads
of state, heads of non-profit and non-governmental
organizations.
One aspect that made this forum at St. Joan's so successful was the diversity of the 40 people participating. There were people from all over the metropolitan area. Some, but not all, were from St. Joan's. The ages ranged from fourteen on up. There were eight students from fourteen to twenty. There were as many as four generations of people at the forum. One presenter was Don Beck, who will be at the global meeting this fall. Friday night's session focused on the question of, why in a world of 6 billion people are resources, rights and everything else so disproportional.Saturday was spent with a continuation of that conversation and how to heal those gaps. They used the integrative health model of alternative and traditional health care. Assuming that the microcosm (individual human) and the macrocosm (world) do mirror each other. What do we know about healing in individuals, and therefore what might that suggest about healing at a global level. Some of the discussion focused on a concept called Spiral Dynamics. This is based on research by Clare Graves 50 to 60 years ago. Don Beck and his colleagues have continued to work on this, and they have much information on their website, http://www.spiraldynamics.comMargaret Lulic is also facilitating another forum at St. Joan's. "Bringing Our Spirituality Into the World" will be a creative venture in mobilizing awareness, resources and action for the common good. How can we communicate the spiritual vision of St. Joan of Arc community to the larger world? |

Don Beck, Spiral Dynamics "Remember, your life is an expression of your mind, and that the one thing you can have absolute control of is your attitude. And your faith. If you truly want to change your world, my friends, you much change your thinking. It is within each one of us to be wise...To whom much is given, much is required." |
|
| Beck will be bringing these twelve postulates* to the 2000 United Nations State of the World Forum. Of these postulates he says, "...the real intent of these postulates is to shape both interior and exterior dynamics to expedite the natural principles that appear to drive societal transformation. Such dynamics rely heavily on self organizing principles and processes rather than mechanistic, artificial mandates. ... In this sense we become co-creators with the The Prime Directive in writing the human story. | ||

Twelve Postulates |
||
| P-1 | Reframe globalization issues around value systems rather than stereotypes. |
| P-2 | Create vital signs monitors to track deeper currents and critical indicators. |
| P-3 | Focus on the futures as more significant than the past in shaping the present. |
| P-4 | Search for the new intelligences that appear around chaos and within crucibles. |
| P-5 | Identify the superordinate goals that transcend other priorities and agendas. |
| P-6 | Facilitate and honor the inevitable steps, stages and waves in human emergence. |
| P-7 | Mobilize all available resources (quadrants/levels) and focus like laser beams. |
| P-8 | destructive conflicts while respecting the essential cycles of change. |
| P-9 | Promote power differentiation through appropriate stratified stages and layers. |
| P-10 | Resolve major paradoxes by implementing win:win:win situations. |
| P-11 | Integrate body, mind, souls and spirit in enriching the human experience. |
| P-12 | Nourish and replenish the natural habitat so all life forms may flourish. |
