Religious Ed. Classes Start Sunday, September 17th!!
As in the past, the presenters and leaders of the teacher meeting were overflowing with energy and great ideas. The day started with breakfast and awards. David Charbonneau received a SJA sweatshirt for teaching 20+ years, Laurie Aylward received a long sleeved tee-shirt for years, and Brie and Stey Roland received short sleeve tee shirts for teaching 5 years. Joan Riebel as a keynote speaker and a break out session leader was dynamic in leading us to work toward collaborative ministry in our teaching. The concept that kids need ownership of and involvement in their class. We explored how to make it happen. Kathy Itzin is the Coordinator for grades 1-8. She led a dynamic break out session for 40 minutes about Basic Theology and another on the Nuts and Bolts of Teaching Here. I had a difficult time tearing myself away from the Theology session. Ask her about low Christology someday! Janet Brown is joined by Christine Patlan to job-share the position of Preschool Coordinator. Christine did a wonderful job this summer of teaching camp volunteers for Camp St. Joan, and of leading the games area for the week. Janet continues to do a wonderful job with coordinating the needs of the teachers, kids, and parents! One of the many other break out sessions included Dori Haugen with age appropriate social justice activities including music! I am completely energized and excited about starting the upcoming school year with a fun bunch of kids.
Family Mass Starts Sunday, September 17th!!

Becka Watry stumbled across SJA in late 1996 4 blocks from her new home. Becka says, "I had been displeased with our church experience, stuck around awhile in hope to be part of change, and then left it for the Methodist faith vowing to return when my kids drew near the teen years. With SJA so close, we gave it a try, and found Saturday evening Mass to be everything we had hoped for! It was so family friendly. In the fall of 1998 we were ready to join the church, and I became a Sunday School Teacher. We found Sunday Mass to be even more dynamic. I continue to teach Sunday School, and help out with Camp StJoans, 1st Communion, and Family Camp. Thanks SJA!"
