"Embracing Your Life Work"
(August 2, 9, 16 & 23 Workshop, Two Week Report and Final Report)

Imagine 30 some people from all over the area, meeting on August 2nd for the first time in the SJA Hospitality Hall at 7:00 pm; for the most part, all strangers.

These people are all from different backgrounds, interests and professions; and you’d expect they had completely different and varying ideas and expectations. But by 7:30 pm these people realized just how much alike they all were.

These are persons looking for change in their lives; they wanted more meaningful lives; they wanted to do something about it; and they wanted help getting there. And all of a sudden the “they” became “we”.

What a fascinating awareness that was. And by the end of that evening we were discussing our hopes and dreams with each other in ways we never thought possible - especially with ‘perfect strangers’. And all because Leonard Lang, the workshop director, had put us on a path of goal setting to map out new lives with the simple logic that says:

‘If we can do what we DON’T want to do, we can just as well do what we want to do.’

“Embrace Your Life Work” is an unusual title which translates to ‘Get you arms around Who you are and What you really want to do’. After an introduction to the techniques of mind-mapping we were on our way to clarifying that secret Vision of ourselves we’ve hidden for many years…and for any number of reasons. We were encouraged to hold ourselves accountable for progressing from a vision to Action by reporting our progress to ‘success partners’. With that in place we started hearing the kinds of testimony and beliefs regarding personal change, insight and revelation normally found in a revival meeting!

It IS reviving, and exciting and mutually encouraging, seeing people get turned on to the reality of more meaningful lives. Sure, I could tell you more about what went on so far in this workshop, but what’s really important is what it’s DOING for us. So you may want to stay out of the way of someone who looks like they’re kind of walking on air…’cause you may not only get knocked down in their enthusiasm, but also find it very contagious! What energizes us are the kinds of powerful insight provided by Nelson Mandella saying: “Our deepest fear is not that we’re inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.”

Amen!
