Advent Evensong Service
...coziness on a slippery night.

Snow was falling in large beautiful flakes that shimmered in the light but made for slippery and stalled driving this Wednesday evening. On entering the candlelit church, all the hurry and hassle seemed to fall away. Anna Vagle explained that "evensong" was a tradition from the Middle Ages, when people gathered in the evening to sing, and in this case, commemorate advent.

JoAnn Potts was the welcomer, followed by the sixteen member Schola singing in procession and depositing their varied candles at the altar. Some traditional and other little known songs were sung by the Schola.

Julie Madden sang a solo reflection of "Breath of Heaven". Dean Pakele related a story of a pony-tailed New York cab driver who celebrated the season by distributing spaghetti. Dean also blessed the audience by using dance technique and incense in an earthenware bowl that Father George is not likely to copy. The audience shared prayer petitions followed by a closing blessing by Dean that was strongly reminiscent of the Hawaiian dance movement. This most unique evening was followed by the usual treats to send us out into the snow again.
