"The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos"

"The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos" was a recently completed three-part series at SJA discussing a video on the creation and mysteries of the Universe. The video was prepared and narrated by the author- mathematician-cosmologist, Brian Swimme; discussions moderated by Katie Johnson of SJA: 2nd grade teacher, lifelong learner, and teacher of creation-centered spirituality; for the purpose of "planting seeds" in the minds of those unaware of the implications of many recent discoveries.

The video is an in-depth exploration of so much of what has been learned of our universe, especially during the past 50-75 years, from such heavies as Einstein, Hubbell, and their associates. It addresses the question of what it can mean to be a human living on the planet Earth in our universe, based upon what we know NOW; compared to traditional beliefs and meanings developed during prior centuries.

Discussions addressed questions arising from the abundance of present scientific knowledge as it effects much of our traditional thinking.

We know there to be some 300 billion stars in our galaxy of the great Milky Way, but we also know there to be many billions of other galaxies now, all racing away from each other; from an explosion occurring 15 billion years ago during which own earth was born! But since we are all in the 'here and now' you might mutter, "So what?". And I don't blame you, for this is where the roller coaster ride begins.

For example, if the earth began 15 Billion years ago, then the myth of Genesis explaining how the earth was made with mature humans in six 'days' (about 5000 years ago?) is unnecessary, along with the myth of why a Garden of Eden no longer exists (original sin!); and humanity can skip down an entirely different path. We are free to concentrate on our inherent Goodness (as part of God's good creation) instead of our inherent sinfulness and the need to 'save our souls'. This is where a reasonable 'so what?' can take you with creation-centered thinking.

Ray Tanis is a farmer, masquerading as an engineer, with a passion for writing... Kids are grown, so concentrates on sunflowers and pumpkins. Ray loves writing poetry and music.
Thus, this is not a series for the faint of heart, nor for current members of the International Flat Earth Society. This is a series for the curious, for those with the eyes of a child, for persons yet unafraid to expand their scientific understanding of the universe, to then explore the implications of what we know and from what has been demonstrated.

When you understand that the 'hidden heart' of the universe is really our own, one may begin to understand Katie's final words to us: "The best language for describing physics, science, etc., today, is ....poetry."!
