The Annual 55 & Over Christmas Luncheon was held on December 13th this year. Mass was celebrated at 12 Noon by George Wertin, and was followed by the catered luncheon in the Christmas-decorated Hospitality Hall.
During his talk at Mass, Fr. Wertin began a dialog regarding the meaning of Christmas, and focused on the meanings which children in particular derive. The magical aspect which children have tends to involve us all in a celebration of love and giving which helps to change our attitudes about many things.

The very tasty pork loin dinner was served cafeteria style, providing seconds and more for all who wanted them. Servers provided refills of red and white wine for those raising their glasses in Christmas Toasts, as well as the added portions of other food available.
Following the luncheon a presentation was made by a representative from the Heifer Project, a most unusual program initiated in the early part of last century providing needy people with the animal resources to feed themselves and farm their lands in raising crops as well. The presentation included a video showing persons raising the animals provided them, and tilling their farmland in several parts of the world. Catalogs were handed out showing the costs for individuals to provide cows, goats, oxen and other animals to the organization for eventual distribution to those requiring this type of help.
Many door prizes were then distributed from a bowl full of attendee’s names,
and many of those with old friends at the gathering then socialized for awhile.
Julie Madden has asked for ideas from any of the 55 & Over community
members in an effort to plan a greater number and variety of activities for this
age group, for which little is done on a regular basis. Julie can be reached
through the St. Joan of Arc telephone number at 612.823.8205 ext. 228.
