A packed house heard an evening of spoken word and music at Westminster
Presbyterian Church on Tuesday night, May 22nd.
Taped by TPT (Twin Cities Public Television), “Go Light The World”
featured Minnesota poets and singers who performed, in part, to raise
money for the poets' trip to San Jose, CA, where they hope to
participate in the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam
Festival.
The evening celebrated the 40th anniversary of the passing of Langston Hughes, a great American poet, playwright, and novelist. The atmosphere was charged with emotion and thought. Mayor R.T. Rybak made an appearance as did the Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir. At one point, music and spoken word were mixed in a profound and moving way.
