St. Paul Cathedral Celebrates 100 Years

The Cathedral of St. Paul celebrated its 100th Anniversary on Saturday, June 2nd, because in 1904, John Ireland, the first Archbishop of St. Paul decided a new cathedral had to be built. And so, Archbishop Ireland enlisted the French architect Emmanuel Masqueray to create his vision. Masqueray, according to Dia Boyle's article in "The Catholic Servant," created a building that "embodies the 'city on a hill' of Sacred Scripture, yet gives no impression of withdrawal or isolation from civic life."

The Cathedral celebrated its anniversary over three days, June 1-3, 2007, with a series of events, including tours, and services where speakers from other religions were represented.
