Sure and it ‘twas just that. Am speakin’ about the annual Prime Timers Group St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, I am. It began with a Mass at 11:30 AM on Wednesday March 16th. Nearly a hundred or so 55 years and older St. Joan’s parishioners attended this event on a very snowy morning. Following the mass was a traditional lunch with all the Irish food one might expect:
There was a bit-o-the soda bread
The beverage of choice-- the beer called Harp
As a welcoming host there was a chair on which sat
Oh, and didn’t I see a smile coming from him?
The happy day began with a High Holy Mass
Greeting time was joyful all ‘round
Unbelievers said no one will show
AND SHUR’ ‘NUFF
Sur’an there was some wonderful Mulligan stew
and Corned Beef with Cabbage of course
With onions, gravy and such, too!!
‘N’ a hearty salad with tinges of green!
Lastly! Cookies- tops sprinkled with red.
Imported, no less, from the Old Sod itself
And no matter atal’, atal’ if it ‘twas a wee sharp
A small smiling impish like Leprechaun -- Really!
All suited in green wearing an oversized hat!
I was certain I did! Didn’t you?
His welcome look filled my heart to the brim.
Soon after eatin’ there was singin’ galore
People were prancin’ – some called it dancin’
Others were clappin’ and wantin’ for more!
Stories of Patrick were heard from the altar.
Fr. Jim D. and Danny C. led us all enmasse!
Friends hugged friends all over the room
Forgetting the snow that fell to the ground
Won’t they notice the weather a comin’?
“They’re Irish today! They will come!” said those who know!
THEY DID, THEY DID!
