Grill chefs Jerry Hartlaub, Tom Gorzycki, and Mike Whalin kept the brats, burgers, and hot dogs flowing, while Joanies topped off their plates with a large variety of potluck salads and desserts. The food was excellent and abundant.
With plenty of entertainment for families with young children, this year’s picnic was a fun for all who attended. Greeted by the very tall, very amusing clown, kids were treated to the balloon animal of their choice. Talented face painters and hair decorators gave the kids a special look for the day. (Yes, a few brave adults were seen sporting brightly colored hair – one even chose to paint his bald spot!)
To burn off the extra energy from those fabulous desserts, kids took turns jump, jump, jumping their way through two Bounce Houses. Older kids looking for a challenge suited up for the 2-Lane Bungee Run, where kids ran against the pull of the bungee cord to see who could place a Velcro marker the furthest away. Near the end of the picnic, even older kids (aka adults) were seen enjoying the Bungee Run!
Inside the gym, picnickers grooved to the music of Cyril Paul and the Calypso Monarchs, who kept the room alive with the Sounds of the Islands. A particular favorite tune was “Under the Sea”, which drew several “musicians” to the stage. About a dozen kids of all ages joined the band, playing percussion instruments to the delight of everyone, especially their pleased parents.
All in all it was a great event, with kids running about, having fun, and playing games. Adults enjoyed a relaxing atmosphere to catch up with friends and neighbors. Everyone enjoyed the food.
Thank you to all who made this year’s picnic a success, including the food service folks who kept the buffet table well-stocked, the set-up and clean-up crews, the organizing committee, and the volunteers who watched over the Bounce Houses!
