Arriving into the parking lot at SJA on Friday evening November 18th, I am awestruck at the beauty of the shining lights throughout the buildings. Pride always shivers through me when I see life continuing throughout the buildings, each evening. It gives the building a warm, cozy feeling. To me it is the true meaning of SJA, a warm cozy place to settle whether it is on a Sunday, weekday or evening.

Seeing a woman putting up a large poster, telling people to use “this door”, I laugh, as she is not from our group, The Adoption Ministry. Another activity is happening in the church, while downstairs in Hospitality Hall the Family Fun Night was about to begin. I hoped our noisy group would not disturb them.

This Family Fun Night was our best ever. Between fifty and sixty people attended, all ready to end their week with musical merriment. The potluck was a success with foods from varying countries, even good old Colonel Sanders from the US of A. (my family’s personal favorite)

Immediately following dinner, Rachael Kroog’s show started with a bang of song and energy. We moved the tables and arranged the seats to circle around Rachael. She quickly had everyone on their feet to sing and dance, going through a variety of songs and dances such as the Hokey Pokey. There were songs for every member of the group, young and old. Singing Surfing USA and Barbara Ann, the younger children wore sunglasses, while several of the older children pretended to surf. Next, we sang Sweet Georgia Brown while children preformed basketball tricks, ending with Rachael showing her stuff with a basketball. She is definitely multi-talented.

Puppets arrived twice in the form of a hand puppet show by the kids and Rachael singing Blue Bayou with her gentleman puppet friend.

The show ended with us sitting around a campfire, the lights off, staring at the stars. (No smores!) We passed blinking stars from one to another, looking deeply into each other’s eyes. It was a moving finale.

The group said a final prayer and our evening came to a wonderful warm ending. People left energized for their weekend, with many of the small children already falling asleep.

Nancy Lynch says, "Joy is being a wife, Mom of fourteen, eight with varying disabilities and living at home, Grandma of thirteen, and Great Grandma of three. Serenity is listening and watching the ocean, alone, at our home on Maui. Passion is friends, photography, reading, swimming and children." Nancy can be reached at nalynch@aol.com.
The Adoption Ministry committee scurried and put back the tables, cleaned up the kitchen and food areas. The group upstairs was coming down to use Hospitality Hall in a few minutes. This is the true beauty of SJA. The lights will continue to shine.
