The SJA Adoption Ministry hosted a Family Fun Night in Hospitality Hall on a beautiful fall evening, Saturday November 13th 2004. The targeted group was families who have adopted children. The purpose: to meet others and break bread together. Entering the hall, excitement and enchantment filled the air. We see tables set with white tablecloths and gorgeous yellow orange fall plants. Small walkers were wandering throughout the area, curious about their new surroundings. Other children were checking out the appetizer table to see what they could find to eat and drink. Two older boys were going from table to table presenting for small intrigued audiences the magic tricks that they had studied and conquered. The boys were amazing and talented. Where else, but SJA, can you go for a potluck and receive wandering entertainment at your dinner table? Dinner consisted of potluck items, many of the recipes were from the countries of adoption, all very yummy.

Matt Dunn was our center stage entertainment. Matt is a skilled magician who was able to dazzle all ages of children and adults. Using volunteers from the audience to produce a rabbit and then goldfish into bowls of water, Matt had all eyes on the fantasy of the magic world. After Matt’s departure it was fun to see the children running about waving their invisible magic wands trying to reproduce a rabbit or goldfish all the while munching on desserts. Meltdown started for the youngest children, signaling the time for a closing prayer and brief goodbyes. Anticipation filled the eyes of children getting ready to go home for pleasant dreams of fantasy and illusion. Hopefully, it happened for the adults as well.
