Java in the 'Jardin'- June 29th

Now that the monsoon season has apparently ended, the Left Field Garden group hosted coffee and cookies in the garden after the Sunday Masses on June 29th. It was a glorious, sunny morning and the garden annuals were in full bloom. It provided a perfect setting for people to stop and 'smell the herbs', have a cup of coffee and visit before going on their way.

As an added bonus, we had the good fortune to have not one, but two, accordion players providing the background music. St. Joan's own Dan Choinard and the guest musician Mark Stillman stopped outside in-between Masses to add a whimsical, musical backdrop to the event.

In keeping with the theme - "To Teach and Inspire" - the gardeners try to learn from past years' garden mistakes. For example, there is already a chicken fence around the gourds and the squash to keep them contained and to give them something to climb on. The delicate herb plants also have metal supports to keep them standing after the heavy rains. The paths were also replenished with fresh mulch to make it easier to walk around. All in all, everything appears to be in great shape.
