Planting is Done- May 28th
Planting is Complete!
The final additions were made to the Left Field this evening to complete the planting phase of this summer's garden. The annual beds were finished with the addition of several rows of zinnias and the signature tall canna lilies from Farmer Rick. It's hard to believe these brown tufts of dried stems(right) will become the beautiful red lilies that frame the garden entrance each summer.
Now that the garden is planted, the volunteers switch into "W" mode - weeding, watering and watching it grow. With the recent rains and warm weather, most of the vegetable plants have sprouted over the past weeks, making it possible to tell which little green things are the weeds and which green things belong there. The morning glories continue to pop up throughout the garden and there is evidence that some critters have been enjoying a salad of bean leaves. For the most part the garden is in great shape.

The garden group is planning some upcoming events including an evening at the Minnesota Arboretum on Wednesday, June 11th. We will plan on meeting at the perennial garden at 7:00 p.m. for a potluck dinner and a tour. Another idea was to visit the Lake Harriet Rose Garden in late June or early July. Watch your e-mail for details. Also, we plan to serve coffee and cookies in the garden after Mass on Sunday, June 29th.
As always, if you want to be placed on the garden e-mail list, contact Chris Oppegard at cmo52@yahoo.com.
