Garden Project
... a series about a fruitful endeavor

Planting Time - May 14th

In just two days the rain-soaked garden plot has been transformed into a patchwork of delicate seedlings.
Approximately 11 people contributed flowers, herbs, bedding plants and seeds to the effort. Farmer Rick arrived with an entire shoebox full of seed packets. We chose some of the novelty plants such as "Broom Corn" and "Crown of Thorns Gourds" - plants that will arouse curiosity and draw visitors to the garden. As for me, I couldn't resist the "Giant Sunflowers". Watch for them in late summer!

Besides providing the garden fertilizer and box o' seeds, Farmer Rick brings his expertise and creativity to the garden, as he instructed Chris on the "proper" way to plant a hill of squash(right). Mostly, the gardening is about having fun - socializing and sharing while we watch the garden grow. Now that the planting is complete, it's time for to relax for a few weeks, and perhaps gather at the Arboretum or the Rose Garden for a social evening. Watch your e-mail for details if you are on the garden e-mail list.

If you would like to be put on the garden e-mail list, please send a note to Chris Oppegard at cmo52@yahoo.com.
