Celebrate Africa
Land of the Blue People
Summer 2003

the little blue people
Entering the SJA gym as a roving reporter, pictures flew across my mind from the movie, “The Gods Must Be Crazy”. Transported into the epicenter of the quake, Celebrate Africa, I mused over the multitude of sights and sounds. Running, jumping, squealing and giggling are thousands of short blue people, (maybe more ... maybe less, they were moving too fast for me to count). Blue streaks are everywhere, their excitement vibrating the surroundings. Everything is rolling, shifting, and moving. I am face to face with a fearless tribe of blue people. Suddenly I spot a small group of blue people, sitting calmly, but on closer inspection, I find they are eating a snack. I took this opportunity to interview one of the calm blond blue-eyed short blue people.

What is your name? uhhhhh Josh
What is your tribe? I dunno, oh yea, Gumbie, I think.
Do you like your tribe? YEAH
Are you having fun? YEAH
I decided to try again and talk with a calm dark haired blue person. Maybe I will get more facts this time.
What is your name? uhhhhh Sarah
What is your tribe? Hey, what is my name?
Do you like your tribe? YEAH
Are you having fun? YEAH

Oh well, I think this time I will catch a moving blue streak, one of the taller short blue people and see what information I can elicit.
What is your name? Why?
What is your tribe? Morocco
Do you like your tribe? This is great.
Are you having fun? Fun? Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I continue my wanderings down the hall filled with blue streaks going in every direction, back and forth, up and down. Then into the church where I hear someone say, “it is quiet time now” (yeah right) and onward to the lawn where the speed and noise vastly increase. They are absolutely everywhere, more and more of them. I think they are multiplying. Should I be worried and fear for my life?

Checking over my notes I see my first notation, “all are smiling, laughing, bouncing, with such zeal, not a sad face among them. It is an awesome sight.” Summing up my report:

This is a definitely a good place to be.
I WANT TO JOIN

We have pictures galore this year!!
The 5th and 6th graders were given an extra task at this years Camp St. Joan. Take a digital camera and capture the flavor of the event. After eliminating the 'shots of the floor', we offer some of
the camper's best pictures.
