Oh, what a glorious day for a picnic! The sun was shining, the weather was cool and crisp and everyone was in a festive mood. At the gym entrance, smoke curls and yummy smells filled the air.

A group of men tended the grills cooking hamburgers, veggie burgers and brats. Children were in a roped off area of the parking lot playing sports, sidewalk chalk games, throwing balls and just running around. People filled the gym, the majority being extremely short people, complete with bright eyes and exuberance. The short ones were trying to use up some of their energy in the two Astro Jumps, while others tried to sit quietly, learning about baby farm animals, so that they could pet them.

Lines of excited faces formed for face painting and hair braiding. Wandering the gym was a colorful clown with starry-eyed children following while she made balloon animals. Many types of food filled two long tables ensuring that everyone got their favorite. Music from the DJ began with the chicken dance, quickly everyone was up and dancing the night away. It was an event of merriment for all who attended.
| "The parish picnic is a great way to celebrate the transition to summer as a community. It’s also a great way to show hospitality to our neighbors who put up with parking congestion throughout the year." ...Fr. George Wertin
Nancy had a lot of fun taking pictures of the merriment. We include some of these pictures in a slide show. Click the links to see pictures of our annual community picnic. |
