It was Fiesta time at St Joan's on Saturday March 17!

The Spanish class, which is being offered through our Sister Parish Committee, took a break from the classroom and learned how to Salsa.

The teacher was Roberto Colon, who also teaches Salsa at the Edina Community Center. He provided a two-hour class in Hospitality Hall. Besides being fun, it was a great workout - they danced the whole two hours!

Julie Madden took part in the class on Saturday and said that they also learned the Cha-Cha and the Merengue. She said that they learned the basic steps and were told that once you feel good with that, you add on from there. Julie also said that dancing with a good partner really helps. "Technically a good partner could make someone look really good!"

The people in the class hope to practice what they learned at the Minneapolis Cafe. Each Friday evening the cafe has Salsa music. Madden said that you may see different styles of Salsa when you go out to different venues, but if you're not afraid to just go with it, you can easily catch on since you know the basic steps.

The Spanish class meets each Saturday from 10am -12 pm and hopes to do more fun things in the future, like bring in a chef to cook up some authentic food.

Marcene Stetz has attended mass at St. Joan’s for the past two years, though she just became an “official” member last Fall. Marcene works at Periscope, an advertising agency in Minneapolis where she is in charge of getting projects printed. She is looking forward to putting her hobby of writing to good use for the web team, as well as meeting more people at St. Joan’s.
