A Conversation on PEACE VII Group Continues to Meet Monday, December 10th, 2001

Conversations on Peace continue at St. Joan of Arc. A group of about 20 people gathered on December 10th to continue their discussion of non-violent alternatives to terrorism and war. Here is a brief summary of that gathering. The group is looking to act on the following items:

• Pursue a response from the legislatures that were at the Nov. 12 meeting
• Develop the possible meeting with Senator Dayton (looks like it won’t be until Feb.)
  • the objective is to let him know that there is a large number of people who oppose war, and to bring people from many faiths together; have at least 500 people at this event.
  • the format could be a panel with prepared questions for the Senator; we want to create a dialogue.
  • publicize the Dayton event from the pulpit if possible.
• Hold a “Conversations on Peace” gathering on a Sunday between and/or after the masses.
• Do a workshop or something that will focus on personal disarmament.
• Create a relationship with the Muslim community - perhaps a “Sister Parish” type relationship.
• Contact other churches and organizations about helping us plan the Dayton Event.
• Conduct an oral survey of other Churches about their involvement with peace issues at this time.
• Everyone create an annotated bibliography on peace books and bring to the next meeting to share.
